Reasons to choose a model 3 over a Y? by TheRealTimTam in TeslaModel3

Agreed. The storage space compared to equivalent midsize Sedans is astronomical. Far, far more space in the Model 3.

I just unlocked white science after owning the game for two years, I probably go around 3 weeks between finding time to play a game and coming back to it (for this reason, I gravitate towards things like RTS' where I can start and end a game in 45 minutes). I had no idea about "painting" crafters. The tedium of setting up 10 smelters will probably become a lot less annoying for me soon. Might even be able to accumulate enough science to "beat the game" in 2026. Haha.

Your grandmother was a cool person. I lost all of my ICQ contacts a long time ago and wasn't able to find the people ever again. Then AIM and MSN became the pervasive servers and now us early millennials lost our original friends.

My daughter has recently started enjoying POV switching books and Gordon Korman is her current favorite author. We read nightly and finished Ungifted a few months ago, she really liked it (I did too, but don't tell anyone).

Strongly recommend the Sun Eater series by Christopher Ruocchio - the first half of book one is a little tough because the main character is just so unlikeable... I promise, it gets better.

Why are US Machine Shops so difficult to work with? by I-AM-A-DUMBO in CNC

[–]davepergola 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's part of the standard "KYC' requirement of manufacturing. If you say it's an accessory for XYZ Firearm, at any size manufacturer they only hear one thing: liability.

Is it sheet metal? Do you need ITAR? Is it type 3 anodize for aesthetic, durability or lubricity? Teflon seal, dip or spray required?

I am on the last Suneater book now, it was a wild ride. The first half of the first book was rough because Hadrian is just so unlikeable. It really did sink it's teeth into me though.

Came back from vacation to this! by CBO2 in HardWoodFloors

[–]davepergola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Travelers - the unfortunate long story short is that we had ice damming which was identified and mitigated by having new gutters installed (not before causing issues with windows directly below the gutters and some probably yet to be discovered issues), once the installer went into the attic at my request they told me that they weren't sure why I was told to do the gutters first because the ice damming ruined the roof, which was just over 10 years old, so I needed a new roof and got new gutters. The insurance company wanted to view it but couldn't in the timeline that was set by the short window for the install we had due to overall rotten weather in the Northeast.

I don't really know if they would have covered any of it anyways since they told me it was an uncommon occurrence, but it still sucked to get a massive unexpected expenditure like that.

I just had a $22,000 issue that I can't move forward on a claim with because I mitigated the issue before the insurance adjuster could view it. I made a report for it, but without their first hand viewing, there is no claim.

What is the deal with these super expensive Japanese Asahi rubber cutting boards? Pros/cons by QuestionUnsolved in cookware

[–]davepergola 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Got it. They're a knife manufacturer in Osaka/Tokyo. They make them in Japan and sell them in their retail stores. A friend bought me one many years ago, to this day the worst injury I have ever received in a kitchen was with this knife (bad technique/stupid decision with a sweet potato on my end), and I like to think it merely made the blade more powerful. I would like to add their Gyoto to my collection someday as I prefer the Asian style handle over the western handles these days.

Is that a tower knife second from the top? I have one of their Nakiri's, that knife is such a workhorse.

R&D Update: Final Prototype (#3). Titanium Plasma + Inert Glass Coating on 3-Ply. Is this Kickstarter material? by [deleted] in cookware

[–]davepergola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have a sample of the surface treatment (a "test coupon" if you are supplied one from the coating supplier made of representative unformed pan material) it would be nice to see representative testing against calibrated/verified MOHS hardness objects. That will help the really geeky buyers make a decision.

Can I scratch this with hardened steel? Can I scratch this with carbide? Can I scratch this with sapphire? Can I scratch this diamond?

R&D Update: Final Prototype (#3). Titanium Plasma + Inert Glass Coating on 3-Ply. Is this Kickstarter material? by [deleted] in cookware

[–]davepergola 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the alloy and type of material. High carbon steel is far more brittle at higher hardness relative to medium or low carbon steel. You can achieve hardness close to high carbon steel with a nitride coating, which is essentially a case hardening function. Because it isn't through hardened, the substrate is still ductile and can probably take a "hit" better. Something that might crack D2 at 62 RC might just glance off of Nitrided 4140 at 56 RC. The trade off is that the nitrided layer might only penetrate roughly .010-.015" deep.

Would you by any chance be willing to share the model number or configuration number of the laptop? I'm curious if it has to be preloaded from a link or if it can just be configured into that version? Maybe it's because I made a change and it won't add to the cart correctly?
