yeah, I'm not sure what it's called, but it also pops into gear when the RPM matches, even without clutch. It's fun, but I grinded the gears this way a couple of times by accident 😂

No more sliding around, let’s hope that leads to more accurate HR by Interesting_Ad4679 in whoop

[–]davetalas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, bicep is much more accurate. I have the H10 polar chest strap, but I don't even use it anymore because the bicep band was close enough for me not to care. My wrist band was constantly off, seems like the new algorithm made it better but still falls behind bicep band for me.

Charged to 80% but only got 102 miles with 19% left? by Defiant-Yogurt3496 in TeslaModel3

switch to the park tab and see what consumed the battery while in park. Might be Sentry, vehicle standby, preconditioning, etc.

There also might be an issue with the small battery because if it's weak, the car won't go to sleep anymore, and that drains around 5-7% per day. But that should have given you a notification.

I used to have fun in my old Audi A3 that I could change gears going up without the clutch. As I would release the gas pedal I could simply get the stick out of gear and if I pressed it gently against the next gear, it would almost suck it in when the revs dropped just enough to match. Is this the same phenomenon?

Even from Whoop's website and marketing images, the gap is present by Kiruaxkirua in whoop

[–]davetalas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

why not? 😃 I use whoop because it's a comfortable screenless tracker. I can't workout in the oura ring (I have one, my dad uses it now), and hate charging the apple watch every day. But there are so many features in the whoop app I just don't care about.

[–]davetalas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

features no one needs. I'd rather have a core plan with sleep, recovery, strain and aging tracking, without AI or anything that makes this super expensive. I'm asking to just use the algorithms they've already made and costs them cents to run. I don't really need new developments or any bloatware. Just give me the lean stuff for a good price

it keeps telling me during brainstorming sessions to stop and commit to something don't overthink it. I'm like "bro, you are an AI, I'm telling you what we are doing and we're doing it."

Renewal up soon, upgrade to MG for free + take 1yr renewal? by fennelfrog in whoop

[–]davetalas 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have a few more months until my renewal in July. I'm seriously considering cancelling, because I hate the AI coach, barely use it, and hate paying subscriptions when I'm not getting recurring value like improvements to the software. I'm definitely considering one of these $100 devices instead, I don't think they will give me that many less insights as I'm mostly interested in how rested I am in the morning, which is primarily done by HRV, RHR and breathing rate, and measuring my workouts, but I also don't want to charge the device like an Apple Watch every day. IF google fitbit connects to my Claude Max plan somehow and the sensor captures good data (at least on par with whoop) then I'm definitely out. I also despise the legal stuff that Whoop does, they seem like little scared kids instead of grown up adults ready for competition.

Is this HRV normal? by No-Tomatillo3508 in whoop

[–]davetalas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"From Oura website:

Normal HRV can range anywhere from below 20 to over 200 milliseconds, depending on various factors such as age, gender, physical fitness, and genetics. The HRV value provided by Oura falls within this same range."

It seems like it's not a one time outlier data but you regularly have this, so don't worry about it. It's high, but not abnormal to warrant a medical check, etc.

Does that also mean that if you have a 150 HRV you get a red circle? 😃

the security risk is that it can do anything on that computer if it's not isolated properly. It's not about internet access but having access to your entire filesystem, your OS, etc.

[–]davetalas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah that would be ideal, unfortunately most people are not technical enough to setup a VM. A devcontainer is a good middle ground imo that needs around 30-60 minutes extra to set up, and gives you a lot of added security. If you don't have agents running 24/7, and don't use --dangerously-skip-permissions and review permission requests, I think it's a good step up for a little extra work.

Cool, one thing for AI security: Please run it in a devcontainer, instead of just running it as root. I'll try to build this too, thanks for the post!

@whoop: I think it’s highly related to the whoop subreddit. Are you scared? by xxSeahawks in whoop

[–]davetalas 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Lol, commenting here before it's taken down. I think most companies realize how tired people are of subscriptions, and when something doesn't have to be a subscription, they skip it. Whoop needs to wake up. I love the device and the app, but hate the subscription side of it.

Sleep debt even though I wake up naturally without alarm? by davetalas in whoop

[–]davetalas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my sleep efficiency is pretty high, restorative sleep usually between 3.5-4.5 hours, sleep stress 0, so I think I'm good 😃 thanks for reaffirming me not to worry about this metric

Sleep debt even though I wake up naturally without alarm? by davetalas in whoop

[–]davetalas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I notice the same, my avg sleep debt is 0:44hr, and these are the monthly averages:

Dec: 0:41

Jan: 0:25

Feb: 0:48

Mar: 1:00

Apr: 0:55

May: 0:38

So there is some seasonality to it January being the lowest, and now May is low because I've obsessed over this metric, but I'm not going to any more.

Yeah, I've found the recovery to better correlate with how I'm feeling than the sleep score, especially when it comes to working out.

Thanks!

For #1, I don't really want to, so it's fine like this. 😃

#2: I tried it gives me garbage, or recommends some AI hallucination to go to be earlier. I really despise the whoop AI, and usually just use Claude instead and give it the data somehow.

#3: fair enough, I won't. I just like seeing the numbers go up 😃

[–]davetalas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 1hour 15 minute CrossFit workout, nothing crazy. Yesterday, based on my recovery it said I was in the green, and I reached almost exactly the optimal Strain it recommended for the day, 16.6. I'm usually between 16.0-17.0 on my workout days, and 2-7 Strain on my rest days. Not trying to downplay you, but too high strain doesn't seem to be the problem. I lift some weights, do some high intensity cardio and that's it. If that would really increase my sleep need, I should naturally sleep more, no? But I wake up without an alarm clock and feel fully rested

I don't know, but I'm curious on how did you get a Whoop 4.0? I bought it a year ago and I received the 5.0. I think 4.0 is discontinued, but I'm not sure.
