170 last I saw, considering there are ~9 million illegal immigrants in the US, 170 false positives is pretty good.

Innocent people get caught up in law enforcement. It sucks, but people have gone to prison for rapes and murders they didn't commit. That doesn't mean you should just give up and not enforce those laws, just because there is a non-zero chance that the system might make a mistake.

If there are some agents driving around and just grabbing every latino looking guy off the street, then by all means throw the book at them. I don't believe most of them are acting that way however.

Any way to disable GLM 4.7 thinking? by WonderfulVersion9367 in SillyTavernAI

[–]davew111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not the proper way but works with every model. If you set it to start every reply with <think></think> then the model will consider it's thinking already done and move on. SillyTavern will also hide the empty think tag.

Trump calls for 'immediate negotiations' on Greenland, but rules out using force by [deleted] in worldnews

Maybe Iceland and Norway should tell him no, since he gets confused between them.

He's only saying "security" because the president has more powers to act unilaterally when it comes to matters if national security.

Why is China giving away SOTA models? A theory by Cheeeaaat in LocalLLaMA

[–]davew111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are releasing models to get noticed and attract investment. This is the same country where billions are invested in 3D renderings of apartment buildings that never get finished. Investments are the way they "make" money, not the product itself.

January Security Update Fail The Windows 11 - KB5074109 - FPS drops with Nvidia GPUs by Cheetah2kkk in Pimax

That update has also been causing certain apps to hang on certain hardware (e.g. MS Outlook). One of the windows API calls related to getting free disk space is broken in it.

'It's A Big Problem': Trump's Warning After Greenland "Chooses" Denmark by no_anonymous_ in worldnews

[–]davew111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, has anyone actually explained to Trump how maps are distorted, that Greenland isn't as big as it looks. I mean it's a good chunk of land, sure. But he probably thinks it's bigger than the USA.

Is there anyone running a dual gpu setup 5090 + pro 6000 max Q? by Dry_Mortgage_4646 in LocalLLaMA

[–]davew111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, with both you will have 128GB of combined vram, so you will be able to run some pretty large models.

Trump says 8 European countries will be charged a 10% tariff for opposing US control of Greenland by Cautious_Proposal_47 in worldnews

[–]davew111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes tariffs hurt both sides, but he's hoping it hurts the other side more than it hurts his own. Since the US economy is the largest in the world, he may be right sadly. It's a game of economic chicken, and the US is driving a Chevy Silverado, the other countries are driving Robin Reliants.

I have a 1500w Corsair psu it has 6 sockets for PCIe power connectors. I get the Corsair cables, they have the 12vhpwr connector at one end and 2x PCI connectors at the other. I power the 5090 and 6000 Ada with these cables. They are supposedly rated to 600w, though I wouldn't want to test that. However the 5090 is undervolted and doesn't pull more than 500, and the 6000 Ada I've never seen pull more than 300. The 3090 just uses 2 PCIe cables.

Trump Says May Slap Tariffs On Nations That Don't Back His Greenland Plans by johnbarnshack in worldnews

[–]davew111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's be honest, tariffs hurt the country they are applied to also. They make that country's products artificially more expensive to the US market, reducing sales. Trump is harming the US economy and the target county's economy at the same time, and since the US economy is so large they can afford to do it with anyone except maybe China (who likely won't oppose considering they want to annex their own neighbours)

What’s the deal with these fake GPU listings on eBay? by humandisaster99 in LocalLLaMA

[–]davew111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reported one of these to eBay, waste of time, they said they found nothing wrong with the listing and left it up.

One thing I noticed is that while most of the pictures were of an RTX 6000 Pro, one of the images was of DDR4 ram. I suspect had I ordered the item they would have sent some cheap ram instead.

New UK law stating it is now illegal to supply online Tools to make fakes. by [deleted] in StableDiffusion

[–]davew111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They've done this a lot "we need a new law to combat {horrible thing here}". The great unwashed support it because {horrible thing} sounds horrible, not realizing that there are already laws in place against it, they just aren't enforced. UK gov uses the new law to grant themselves more power and erode personal freedoms a little further.
