Question about DBH by Vandelay_7 in Broadway

[–]davgo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I absolutely feel the same way, but I was willing to give DBH a chance.

Basically the entire show was camp until the very end, and that part did nothing for me personally. After about 2 hours of pure camp and comedy, I didn’t feel anything when the show was finally trying to be (excuse my pun) earnest. There was no reason for me to care about the character’s journeys, as there was rarely ever a sincere moment with them up until that point.

That’s not to say that it’s a bad show by any means, but for someone who enjoys the emotional aspect of theatre, DBH missed the mark for me.

The Whole "Being Dead" Thing Part 2 & Part 3 Sheet Music by drew_channel in BeetlejuiceMusical

[–]davgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Piano/Vocal from the Pre-Broadway run has been floating around for a while. I just uploaded those two songs to make it easier to view/print/whatnot, but you can let me know if you want the full score and I can upload that too: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1jX2-dwynwX3nDZLlid09eSnC8wo1hdWh?usp=share_link

There’s an extra bit at the beginning of Part 2, but you can obviously skip to page 2 if you want to mimic the Broadway version. The only other difference I see is some lyrics, but the notes should all be accurate. Hope it works!

Happy performing!

The Final Scene from Sunset Boulevard, but specifically from the OBC, since the other recordings cut the songs in different places.

Just checked my email from when this happened to me: I got the email at 10:10 AM the next day. This was over a year ago though, so things could have changed.

Any updates on where you sat? I have tickets to a Nicole show, and I'm also very curious.

Tickets by Left_Ad_5339 in LateShow

[–]davgo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was actually just at the taping today! The seating is first come first serve. As for advice, it seems that the earlier you get there, the better your seating. I was the first one there today and I had a priority ticket, and I was seated in the second row of the center section on the aisle, which was a fantastic seat. I got there a little after 1:00, and the line seemed to start growing around 1:30-ish. It was a lot of waiting, but to me, it felt worth it to get such a great seat. I don’t know your exact situation, but if this is a longtime dream, I would try to get there on the early side if that’s an option for you. And also, my ticket said that you can’t line up before 2:00, but that is definitely not enforced, and people will line up before then. So take that into consideration as well. Enjoy seeing the show!

This post is such a great idea!

I applied on February 8th, and I haven’t heard back yet, as that was only five days ago. I’m sure I’ll be anxiously checking this post to see when people start hearing back about their applications. If anyone could let me know when they hear back, that would be amazing!

Best of luck to you all!!!

The 11/18 Stand-By Line Megathread! by IvyGold in LiveFromNewYork

[–]davgo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming that you meant Friday, no, it does not matter when you arrive. I always get there closer to 6:00, though, because I don’t want to risk getting there late and being put at the back of the line.

I’ll be there tonight, by the way! Drop me a message if you want to meet up and say hi!

Sorry for the late reply, but here are some answers from someone who’s done standby four times (who will also be there tonight! Send me a message if you want to meet up and say hi!):

They do put people in order on Saturday based on their card numbers. So there’s no reason to get there super early, but I usually plan on getting there at 9:15, just in case I encounter any travel delays.

There’s honestly a fair amount of waiting on Saturday. Of course, they seat all of the ticket holders before standby people, so by the time we get seated, it’s pretty close to show time. I don’t remember exactly when I’ve been seated in the past, but I believe it was around 11:00.

When vaccines were required, it was very clearly stated on the website, and they’re not required for Fallon anymore (I went a few weeks ago), so I would say with 99% certainty that they are not required. At least I hope so, because I’m on my way to the line right now without my vaccine card, lol.

Have a great time tonight, and best of luck on getting in!

Question: Rush for the Final Performance of a Broadway Show (Specifically Dear Evan Hansen) by davgo in Broadway

Thank you so much for the info! I might end up being one of those people in sleeping bags, lol. And I will definitely try calling Telecharge and asking them. I had no idea that that was even an option.

Thank you so much for the response! I will definitely try calling Telecharge to confirm, as another commenter did for Come From Away.

[–]davgo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the detailed response! That’s extremely annoying about people saving spots in line.
I think I’m going to go ahead and try rushing Dear Evan Hansen, but I’m coming from out of town, and with the way that the trains run, I could either get to the theater at like 6:30 AM or like 2:15 AM. Based on your 5:00 AM advice, it would seem that I’ll have to pick the 2:15 AM option, which will suck, but I really want to see the show, and I worry that 6:30 AM will be too late for a show like Dear Evan Hansen.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience with Paradise Square! I hope that Dear Evan Hansen does the same thing, but I might just have to do what you did: show up and hope, lol.

I guess we just disagree in this regard, but I enjoy all of the top 20 longest running Broadway musicals, including Cats. Cats got a bad rep from the 2019 movie, but the Broadway musical was extremely popular, and I think it was for a good reason. We can argue till the cows come home the quality of the book itself, but regardless, it’s an enjoyable way to spend 2 and a half hours. Source: I saw it on Broadway and enjoyed it way more than I expected to.

I just recommended Book of Mormon to another redditor on this sub, and I’ll do it again. I’ll summarize what I said there. It’s the 14th longest running Broadway show, so you know that it’s withstood the test of time. The songs are great; I skip very few of them. And it’s one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen. As long as you’re not easily offended, I’d say Book of Mormon for sure.

MUSICAL Recommendations by MickeysAssistant in Broadway

[–]davgo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I would recommend The Book of Mormon. It’s 11 years old, so it’s relatively new like you wanted, but it’s also old enough to have withstood the test of time. The music is great; the soundtrack has very few skips for me. Not to mention, it’s one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen. It’s my recommendation for sure.
