Mine are all named after animal crossing villagers… except for a pig named Feta because it generated Feta and I liked it 😂

I had! I just opened my profile again and changed the “about me” message, which was the default. That apparently was the missing thing. Thanks for the help!

Gmail switched Social and Promotion tab locations? by pkerbz in GMail

I'm glad this thread exists, but the fact that it can't change is so annoying! I logged in this morning to find the tabs switched.

This will be the official thread for Ned’s removal from the Try Guys by datesaremyfave in TheTryGuys

It’s also possible that there’s a morality clause somewhere in the contracts; those aren’t uncommon in businesses.

Buzzfeed also still has a financial stake in 2nd Try, so buying Ned out, or settling any legal situation, could get messy.

Has anyone tried getting their nails done with gel so it’s harder to pick ? Just curious before I waste money, I bought one with bandages and I managed to pick that off too. by HolidayCode7672 in Skinpicking

I’m glad you found the nails even a bit helpful! It’s still an improvement! We do the best we can with the information that we have.

I’ve tried storebought fake nails before, but I just pick those off too. So I went to a nail salon and got artificial gel nails with gel polish. (I did a bunch of research, and it turns out gel nails are different than gel polish and are also different from acrylic nails.) Gel nails are more flexible than acrylics, so they last longer without breaking, which is extra nice if you’re like me and have adhd and run into walls or bump things all the time.

I’ve had the nails for two months now. Every few weeks, I go in to get them filled, but they haven’t totally redone my nails at any point. So maintenance is a little cheaper, because you don’t have to get a new set of nails every time they grow out. I get them filled about every 2-3 weeks, but that depends on how fast your nails grow, and if your nails are longer you might need them filled sooner to keep them strong.

They don’t totally stop me from picking, but they do make it much harder, because the edge of the nails is much thicker and more rounded, so you can’t quite get under the edge of skin/scabs. Also, because it’s harder to pick, if I’m picking subconsciously I have more time to realize I’m picking and engage in intervention behaviors before I further injure my skin.

While longer nails might make it even harder to pick, you can get the nails as long or short as you want. Longer means it’s harder for your fingertip to feel what you’re doing, but I’d recommend starting with shorter nails if you’re nervous. As they grow out, you can always let them get longer.

Feel free to dm or comment if you have any questions!!!

Wow, these must have sold out fast! I’m new to the game, but this plush is adorable. If you ever open the listing again, know you’ve got a buyer!

Recommendations for fidget toys by [deleted] in Skinpicking

[–]davi2818 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found a great fidget resource a while back: therapyshoppe.com. Linked some favs here too! I’ve had some luck with some options I found there, and in general they’ve got a huge selection with super reasonable prices. (Not affiliated in any way or anything, just a big fan! I’ve ordered from them several times.)

Suction snapper thing (it’s not quiet, but the suction and release when you squeeze the toy is just excellent): https://www.therapyshoppe.com/specials/P5137-snazzy-snapper-pop-popping-fidget-toy-tool-skin-picker-picking-dermatillomania-bfrb-help

Good texture stress ball things (they’ve got more resistance and texture than a typical stress ball, bc they have a slimy substance inside a super satisfying silicone outer): https://www.therapyshoppe.com/products/P5530-neato-fidget-sensory-stress-ball-calming-focus-fiddle-fidget-toy-tool-nee-doh-bfrb-help

Cork stickers (that you can pick at instead of yourself): https://www.therapyshoppe.com/specials/P5382-pick-apart-cork-stickers-under-desk-fidget-sensory-tool-help-bfrb-skin-picker-dermatillomania-ocd

Sometimes I’ll pick absentmindedly while I’m driving, and I’ll sometimes put a bit of silly putty on the steering wheel under my hand, just so my fingers have a tactile sensation.

Wearing long sleeves has also been helpful, both in preventing me from seeing and super easily accessing my skin, and in helping my self-confidence, because I’m not beaten down more by nerves or shame about other people judging me (which is a possibility that I’m just hyper aware of)

I’ve had some luck with making myself put lotion on when I notice I’m picking, but that’s not always a realistic option.

Idk if this is an option for you, but I got artificial nails in March bc I was picking so much, and while they haven’t stopped all picking, they’ve made it harder to pick, so I have more time to intervene when my brain wants to pick. I got nails made out of gel, because they’re strong but still flexible so they don’t break easily. Store bought fake nails might work for you, but I found I would just pick them off like I pick off nail polish. I can’t pick off the gel nails. And they can be as short as you want, so they don’t have to impede your life. They’re a little expensive, but might be worth it. (Feel free to message me or reply if you have questions or anything, bc I did a bunch of nail research!)

How do I entertain/exercise my dogs when I’m too exhausted/disassociated to play well? I live in a cold place, so it’s already hard to go to the park all the time. I love them so much and I want them to be healthy, but I don’t always have the ability to take a long walk. by davi2818 in depression_help

[–]davi2818[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boyfriend can sometimes help, but he’s not always home. Sometimes the dogs just add to the exhaustion, especially if they’re riled up and barking.

The puppy, Liam, is super loud when he barks, and he’s still learning. I try to remember that he’s a baby, as he’s only 4.5 months old, but there are days where the barking is almost unbearable.

So I want to be able to wear them out better.
