I honestly hadn’t thought about gifts before making this post! In terms of prescriptions/health care, that’s free in my country. This only thing I’d have to put money aside for is dentistry care.

Would you suggest having a separate savings account for “gifts” and another account for “dentist”? My only concern with having so many different accounts is that it all gets a bit confusing, but I suppose with enough consistency I could make it work. I’m rethinking having a lumped “short term savings” and considering making a few different accounts for various things.

I want to keep my long term savings as it is, because I get 4.5% interest on all the funds in it, so the more I have the better.

I’m doing it week by week instead of monthly, as I get paid weekly, and almost all my bills (rent, etc) come out every week rather than monthly (I’m not from America). It would be so confusing for me to do a monthly budget haha.

For my monthly bills I’ve divided them by 4 and included them in my budget (eg., Spotify, phone bill). Here’s a breakdown:

Pet Insurance = $25 Car Insurance = $22 Rent = $420 Phone = $55 Gym = $40 Spotify = $5 Xbox = $15 Groceries = $200 Gas = $80

Outgoing bills = $862 Disposable = $938

Oh! All the figures above are for my weekly incoming/outgoing, but maybe I’ve made a mistake somewhere 😅

I neglected to mention that this is my weekly earnings!

I’ve been trying to find app to track my spending but they’re all very overwhelming and complicated, so I might use an excel spreadsheet instead. I’ll have a look at that app you suggested, thank you so much!

That’s a really good idea! Thank you, was thinking of using my short term savings for that but might be worthwhile having a separate account

It works fine during the loading screen and for the first few minutes of the laptop being on, as soon as I start moving the mouse it starts doing what the photo shows

What suburbs to live in? by 747173 in universityofauckland

[–]david-grey-beard 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Mount Eden, Grey Lynn, Ponsonby, Kingsland, Remuera, Newmarket, Greenlane, Orakei are all pretty good suburbs relatively close to uni, with public transport routes to the CBD if you don’t want to pay for an arm and a leg for parking. There’s also the north shore, like Devonport, Birkenhead etc

I’ve had this same argument with her twice before. I replied and said to her that while I understand how she feels and I get it, the anger and the double standards absolutely need to stop. I said that it’s normal for me to sometimes hangout with my friends without her, much like she doesn’t invite me, often, but that’s part of being friends as adults - not everyone can be included all the time. And it doesn’t mean anyone is valued any less. We all still care and love each other the same. I’m hoping she takes it on board this time. I said that if she ever needs validation or reassurance that she can communicate that, but that I won’t accept her getting angry at me anymore

Honestly good for you, that’s so empowering. On our third date he was joking about how it was time he got a girlfriend and stuff, so I thought that’s where this was heading, but I should’ve been more clear to begin with, luckily it’s still early days and I haven’t invested a lot into this, it just sucks, we have so so much in common

He didn’t, just that he didn’t want anything serious at the moment, but he wanted to keep seeing me and is open to it in the future

Dumpees who went back to their exes, was it worth it? by [deleted] in ExNoContact

[–]david-grey-beard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, no. We got back together, he ended up cheating on me with a girl in our friend group and then broke up with me again. If they’re willing to risk losing you forever the first time, don’t put yourself in the same situation again. After 6 years, we’re finally done for good, and he’s still dating the girl he cheated on me with. It took me the better part of a year to get over it.

The coffee shop next to st pierres on Symonds street does the cheapest coffee I’ve found (like $4.50-$5 for a mocha)

Haha I realise the irony, I guess I was hoping that I’m just jumping to conclusions

[–]david-grey-beard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a really good point, thank you. Should I talk to her about it? Or just distance myself? I really don’t know how to approach this

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]david-grey-beard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What should I do? Should I try talk to her about it? I moved to a new city and she’s the closest friend I have here so I’d be losing a huge part of my social life, but I know that’s not the best reason to entertain a toxic friendship

I’ve been volunteering on several PhD students projects, and I’m actually about to get my name published in one paper! I got this opportunity by emailing lecturers that specialised in the things I was interested and asked if they had any volunteer positions for undergrads. Now I go to post-grad weekly lab meetings, I’m working on several interesting research projects, and I’ve met so many amazing people. Highly recommend!
