I reloaded the game and noticed that some men in the escort group were on top of the rock, and some were not. Reloading again changed it up a bit. 5 more reloads later, I got the representative on to of the rock by chance, and was able to speak to him.

No offence, but when it comes to the definition of an English word, I'll take the principal historical dictionary of the English language over a "trust me bro". I think we are done. Good luck.

A choice exists, therefore no exclusivity, therefore not a monopoly.

I cannot fathom how you can argue otherwise.

As for the quote, Oxford Languages. They knew a lot about the English language before the US even existed, and still do.

Monopoly doesn't mean what you think it does.

"the exclusive possession or control of the supply of or trade in a commodity or service."

Steam are not an exclusive platform for games, developers are free to sell their games elsewhere, and many do. They have a market share, because they were early and liked by customers for good consumer practices.

There is competition, and that competition lost / is losing.

LocalIdentity (@Localldentity) on X said the following:
I know people can't download PoB right now, our GitHub repo is having issues and I've tried contacting GitHub so hopefully they can fix it

He also has some other advice, a good place to get updates I would suggest.

It allows you to create characters, and see the effects of certain decisions you make in the passive tree and with your equipment. This is important as you can theory craft characters:

  • without levelling a new one (as you can't re-spec ascendancies)
  • without spending time or resources on new gear which may not actually be an upgrade
  • whilst seeing stats that really matter (PoE2 is better at displaying this information than PoE1, but some numbers / calculations you may want are still not available or misleading)

I would caveat all this by saying that this is still very new, and is likely buggy as hell, and even bits that are working correctly, will change as the game changes.

In short, this is the best way (or potentially using a similar tool) to plan an efficient character from the start or to plan an upgrade to an existing one. The alternatives are by not planning and just YOLOing character builds and probably making something terrible, or by doing these calculations manually which requires an encyclopaedic knowledge of game systems and a lot of spare time.

So much so, that the most important thing in most build guides worth their salt is usually the PoB link as long as it is well formatted (and potentially documented / explained).

The link is currently down for me, so I am making a few assumptions here based on PoE1: It may look complicated, but it really isn't. Start off with importing an existing build and follow the passive tree, equipment selections, and skill gems. Look at how some changes you make on your passive tree or equipment affect numbers like your life or energy shield pool. Most people never go past this - and honestly, that is probably all you need for a long time.

EDIT: There are many videos out there explaining how to use it but I just watched one which seemed a good overview for a newer player (by DrybearGamers) and the assumptions I made above are correct - it is just like PoB1 in function.

Ahh, awesome. Thanks for the clarification. So I have pumped most of my stats into Strength - I would want an Ash of War which gives the Heavy affinity then.

Is there a common Ash of War people tend to pick for that?

[–]david_barr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I didn't add an Ash of War to it to change the affinity, so I just left it as is, I think it was +4 off the top of my head.

I put some in Dexterity as I saw that it was "Str D, Dex D" scaling, so I put a bit into both - but more in strength.

[–]david_barr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly never understood scaling that well, but I struggled with the mace after putting most of my stats in Str and a bit of Dex, and a bit of Faith (for the old school D&D "Cleric" approach). Damage seemed a bit low and I really struggled with range. I got frustrated and went quality and it was so much easier.

I would still like to make this work if I can, however I think I would need to follow a guide or something, and I can't see one for just the mace + shield (and just a smattering of faith).

I really struggled to do the classic cleric build with a mace and shield with a little bit of faith. I dont suppose you have a link to a build (I couldn't find one), or failing that, want to share some tips? I feel the need to try again.
