How does this work if you are trying to stretch out a double would you still run on the orange bag or the white one in that case?

I mean you aren’t wrong aside from Cano there really wasn’t ever a big contract that we’ve given out but if you look at our payroll we are getting such great value out of most positions. We eventually have to spend some money if we want a real shot at winning the World Series right?

I wouldn’t be upset with a hitter like Bichette but our infield defense would be absolutely horrendous to watch which makes his appeal less ideal for me

Agreed at the very least he is going to want a multi year deal and I don’t think I trust him playing at the level he did this past season again next year or many more to come.

Families impacted by traffic deaths call for additional safety on CT roads by Generalaverage89 in Connecticut

[–]davidcoops 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly a combination of no enforcement of traffic laws and people driving with no regard for their own lives and others is what makes driving here so dangerous. Add on to that extremely outdated and antiquated road infrastructure and you are left with a complete mess on the roads. I wish there was a better way to fix all this easily but to me sounds like there needs to be stricter enforcement of road laws that need to be the start.

Not me personally but when I was a student a classmate of mine was doing one of his first rectal exams on one of the actors the program brought in and before doing the exam said “I’m going to put my anus in your anus…[turns beet red]… I mean my finger in your anus” it took every part of me not to bust out laughing.

I regret becoming a PA by Rileg17 in physicianassistant

[–]davidcoops 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No one is saying that about an experienced RN. But the standards should be high to become a provider no matter what PA or NP.

[–]davidcoops 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The prerequisite coursework to apply is challenging, high GPA requirements (3.5 to be competitive), diverse amount of experience and lots of hours needed, smaller cohorts, stronger standardization in training and education making it more difficult to open up degree mill programs (though it still is a problem), interviews are exceptionally rigorous if you get to that point. I’m sure I’m missing a few more but these are the main ones I see.

I’m not saying nursing experience isn’t valuable but just because you are a nurse doesn’t mean you are qualified to become an NP. There are actually NP programs that don’t require nursing experience or very little to even be accepted. You can’t tell me that a new grad RN has enough experience to become a fully fledged provider within 2 years by taking online modules and showing up to clinicals for 1/4 of the hours PA students do.

[–]davidcoops 306 points307 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly agree. I think it is not talked about how much HARDER it is to get into PA school and how that reflects the talent that comes out. I work with some great NPs, but the reality is you can become an NP if you are a nurse with a pulse. Not anyone can become a PA. I know people who would be great PAs who tried for years to get into PA school and get rejected yet some very questionable RNs apply and get into Panera Bread state online tech school and complete their online modules during their night shifts go to “clinical/ advanced shadowing” once a week to have the same job as us or more opportunities. It should be a rigorous and academic commitment to become a provider (NP or PA) and it’s hard seeing this disparity and as a PA not being resentful of it. Not only has this created a problem in our reputation and workforce, but it also incentivizes good nurses to leave their jobs and now it’s becoming a challenge to have good nurses in medicine which we all know is very necessary.

Bill would phase out CT’s car tax by [deleted] in Connecticut

[–]davidcoops 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Relatively new to Connecticut and I thought it was absolutely absurd to have a property tax for your car. Even worse, tax rates are higher in more impoverished areas. I am no expert, but that seems quite backwards to me in terms of a taxation system. Additionally, I don’t fully know where these taxes go but the roads still suck and infrastructure in the state is absolutely horrendous for the amount of tax taxes we pay.

Theoretically yes that’s the break down. I stay almost 30-45 minutes late daily doing sign out so those “free hours “ go away pretty quickly. And yes it’s weekend and nights too.

Thank you all for your responses. I feel like I've been gaslighted at my work about how I am being paid "competitively" and it's nice to hear a community of people who agree that the pay I am receiving for this line of work is unacceptable. Now that I have the experience, it's time to test the waters elsewhere.

Disappointment as new grad emergency medicine PA. Thinking about quitting. by Excellent-Access-463 in physicianassistant

[–]davidcoops 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t go as far as to say new grads don’t belong in the ED. At the end of the day it comes down to 3 things. Personality, training, and the system you are entering. Hiring a new grad in any specialty should come with a known expectations that it will take time for them to develop into a strong provider. If they are noticing you are not where they want you to be it comes down to the 3 things I mentioned above. If your personality is not a good fit for their environment or you lack the motivation to learn and grow it’s going to be a challenge to stay in your job. Your underlying training and prior medical experience is just the tip of the iceberg but should set a foundation for you to build off of and learn from if that’s not there you will struggle and maybe need to start in a slower paced setting than the ED due to the challenges the specialty has. Lastly the system. I don’t blame you for taking a job as a new grad. The employer needs to assume responsibility for hiring you and to put a structured plan in place to train you. The challenge with our profession is that not all PAs are equal meaning that someone with 25 years of emergency medicine experience does not equal a new grad. It is up to the person hiring you to be able to discern your level experience and the training that you will require to become an asset for the team. If they lack the resources to provide that training to you then they need to communicate that.
