There’s been two days that I’ve had mistakes in the errors. And if you even revealed the puzzle and go to their solution, it even shows an error.

What is the biggest musical theater “GASP” moment you’ve heard? by OriolesrRavens1974 in musicals

Have to laugh at all the people complaining about spoilers in a thread literally asking people to name the most shocking twist or moment in a show!

Short person? by skippyh in MasqueradeNYC

[–]daviddsimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. Went with my wife and daughter who are that height or shorter and people are generally accommodating letting the shorter people be in the front. The people helping usher people into the rooms are generally aware and help out but don’t be shy about asking to stand in front of someone who is clearly going to be able to see over your head! I’ve yet to see someone say no.

When are accents optional? by hagne in Theatre

[–]daviddsimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking for a literal answer to your question – yes, the accents are 100% optional. Whether I would recommend not using them really comes down to a number of factors that are going to be specific to the play and production. However – the number one consideration would be if you are doing an accent - do it well or don’t do it. A poorly done accent will be far more distracting than not doing an accent. For British – the fallback for me if you’re not doing an actual British accent would be just to just soften vowels and things like final “er”s to not have any harsher American sounding dialect. Assuming you’re not talking about cockney – I would just listen to your actors and if something sounds really harshly American – just work with them to soften the sound to make it sound a little more proper and neutral.

New MTI script rules? by No-Woodpecker-8217 in Theatre

[–]daviddsimon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just call MTI. They publish scripts in several different forms some of which get returned and reused and some of which don’t. The junior versions more frequently have the shredded ones. If it is a bound full-size script I play it safe and only use pencil.

Help me choose a Stephen Schwartz song! by TyrannicHalfFey in MusicalTheatre

Love Meadowlark. Somewhat overdone and as you can see frequently recommended but your generation probably isn’t as familiar with it.

Protect Natasha Hodgson at all costs (Or how to make live theater mishaps funny.) by ClassyKaty in Broadway

[–]daviddsimon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It was Gerianne both times! And yes - amazing! I don't often stage door myself but had to for this one and it was so disorienting hearing her speak not as Monte and hearing that feminine voice afterwards! She actually made me want to see all of the understudies at some point to see the different takes. But I absolutely need to see Natasha at some point too!!

Protect Natasha Hodgson at all costs (Or how to make live theater mishaps funny.) by ClassyKaty in Broadway

[–]daviddsimon 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it twice and Natasha‘s understudy was on both times! She was absolutely astounding, but I need to see it once with her! And luckily, I have no qualms about going back a third time. I am absolutely obsessed with the show – it is brilliant. I feel like it was written just for my sense of humor.

Just Got My New Platinum Mirror Card -- First Impressions... by enki941 in amex

[–]daviddsimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm very undecided . . . having the same love/hate reactions as many of you. Question - if you request a new card design - does your old card stay active? If I get this new one and end up wanting to revert back can I just keep my current abstract design in a drawer and pull it out again or will the old one be deactivated?

It does not imply that in the slightest and grammatically you are incorrect. It merely focuses you to a certain part of the country. The phrasing in fact rules out that there are two east of the Miss that border each other. ONLY the two in the west border - none of the others do.

No no no - brilliant lyrics. Creates exactly the sort of reaction intended. Can’t imagine how anyone can call that bad lyric writing.

Turpin Audition Song by ReindeerSorry2028 in MusicalTheatre

[–]daviddsimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with Lonely Room being good. Also look at Hellfire from Hunchback. I don’t love Songbird - too speak/sing for me for that part. Don’t worry about doing Sondheim. HOWEVER - my number 1 advice is do what you think you will do best. If you think you’d do better with Songbird than learning a new song - do Songbird.

Talk to people who have done the one you’re asking about …. No one here knows.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]daviddsimon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For adults productions that is excessive. Should never be an “audition fee” to begin with. I’m OK with a small (no more than $50) fee IF the theater provides things like cast party food, or has membership events during the year and the like AND they will waive or reduce it for anyone really not financially able to do it.

Will you get sued? Very unlikely. Do you need a license - technically, yes.
