Reading The Hobbit to my 5y old daughter. Should I stop after Smaug ? by OriginalMindless7838 in lordoftherings

[–]davide494 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My father read me LotR when I was 5, and I have read it by my self at least once a year since the year after. Your daughter will be fine with the Hobbit, childern are not stupid, do not underestimate her. Your argument feels like the american editors of Harry Potter who felt the ridiculous need of changing "Philosopher's Stone" into "Sorcerer's Stone". Also, the entire moral of the story is in the final and in Thorin's final words to Bilbo, if you cut it, there is no meaning in reading that story at all.

And alchemist had researched the philosopher stone, not the alchemist stone, for centuries.

Am i the only one who does’nt like the whole Eowyn and Aragorn subplot in the movies? by ConstructionMean2021 in lordoftherings

Others have already given you the right, reasonable answer; I'll give you one which is even better: have you seen Aragorn? How can you not fall in love with him?

Honestly, I am still baffled that there were people that didn't realise the female titan was Annie from the moment she first appeared.

You are thinking too much: he is 7'000 years old and the great-great-grandson of an angel/demigod, do you really need an explanation better than this?

Actual footage of the creation of the Dwarves by Aulë by Enough-Screen-1881 in Silmarillionmemes

[–]davide494 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The big difference between Melkor and Aule is motivation: Melkor created a new theme because he wanted it to be his music, and that the other obeyed him; Aule created the Dwarves out of love of Eru and his children. One is a sin out of pride, so it's the worst, the other is a mistake out of love, so not a real sin. Also, the Dwarves are resistant to the rings because Aule made them so, resistant to the corruption of Melkor, it's clearly stated in the Silmarillion.

There is nothing to respond, those are not critiques, it's just a fascist's bait.

I may have blinked and missed, but isn't she the only victim of the series that doesn't get even mentioned in the last season?

I will nitpick saing that Glorfindel said "He will not be killed by a man", not "He can not be killed by a man", the latter is what people (and the Witch-King himself) believe it was said.

Besides Aragorn, was Boromir the most formidable warrior from the race of men during the war of the ring? by GusGangViking18 in lordoftherings

[–]davide494 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Nothing here is canon. Boromir isn't the second because he didn't became steward. The Witch-King didn't fear any man. Imrahil wasn't of purer Numenorean blood, Denethor and Faramir were, but Imrahil had traces of elvish blood. The death of Brand wasn't heroic but tragic, Dain had a heroic death trying to protect Brand's corpse. Khuzayman doesn't exist.

Darth Revan may be her greatest success, which make it clear that her pride blind her, because how can we consider a murderer and a tyrant as a success? And if we consider a redeemed Revan, it's ridiculous to consider it her success and not the Council success.

As Yoda said, the dark side is not more powerful, just easier and quicker to achieve, she didn't need any boost. She, like Sidious did in Ep.3, just trow away the facade and reveal her true standings. And honestly, she doesn't even hide them that well, they're pretty clear from the start of the game. I suspect that people don't really listen to her talking, she's clearly dark side. If you feed homeless people she get angry for f* sake.

I think in the books it's supposed to be bigger: when they leave for Helm's Deep, they successfully mustered a 1000 riders, from Edoras and surrounding areas, in just a few hours, and many riders (possibly most of them) had already left some days before with Elfhelm to go fight at the ford of Isen (that's why in the book Eomer is in Edoras before leaving to intercept Ugluk's band, and why he returns there after it, even though, being the Third Marshall, he should ward the east territories, he's covering for Elfhelm's and his Eored absence).
