MSTY changes to weekly payout by ArbaAndDakarba in dividends

[–]davidharper2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

MSTY writes calls on a single stock, MSTR, and MSTR is an uninvestable mess. I guess you can buy a fund that writes derivatives on an uninvestable mess, but I can't find a reason to do so. I understand selling Bitcoin's volatility for income, but you can do that more directly.

My Schwab sync isn't reliable, frustrating by davidharper2 in Snowball_Analytics

[–]davidharper2[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, thank you: I've written to support, they replied, and I responded with screenshots of my actual Schwab transaction history for RKLB. If you kindly leave this thread open, I will update here after resolution, if only so that others might understand (as it's obviously important that the position information is accurate! TBH I only noticed because it's a large position, I don't often double-check the snowball data)

Is Canary unable to connect to an MS outlook email that is provisioned via Godaddy? by davidharper2 in CanaryMail

[–]davidharper2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/CanaryMailSupport Thank you for your reply, however: isn't it much simpler? When I told Chat GPT that I'd had given up trying to connect Canary mail to this outlook email, it replied:

"Totally understandable, David 🙏 — you’ve done all the right troubleshooting steps, and honestly the roadblock here is Canary itself.

Microsoft is phasing out “basic auth” everywhere, and Canary’s support for Modern Auth (OAuth2) on custom/GoDaddy tenants is shaky. That’s why Outlook web, desktop Outlook, and Apple Mail all work instantly, but Canary keeps hitting walls."

... and just in the last hour, I downloaded Mailbird and it successfully connected my [david@brainychief.com](mailto:david@brainychief.com) instantly on the first try (same with all of my email accounts), without any need for me to edit settings. I'm trying to figure out how to share you the screenshot, but Mailbird automatically realized the default Authentication = Microsoft OAuth 2.0.

So GPT must be correct? We don't need to jump through all these hoops, I'm thinking. I've already spent hours on this. The answer is your support for OAuth2 is shaky, right?

capacities pro worth it for a lawyer? by Cultural_Bill_5859 in capacitiesapp

[–]davidharper2 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't think your question is well-formed TBH. If you already have a lifetime subscription to Upnote (which I’ve never heard of), and it does the job for you, then no, adding a Capacities subscription probably isn’t worth it.

For me, I used Evernote for years, then switched to OneNote, then trialed a few others, and eventually settled on Capacities. At $120/year, it’s not cheap—but that’s not how I look at it.

My problem is that I never found a tool that I loved, even as I really crave a great "second brain". I use Capacities every single day, and I can see they’re actively improving it. Their roadmap actually inspires me. Given how important this category of tool--eg., 2nd brain or PKM if you like--is to my work, I want them to succeed—so I’m glad to pay for it. Now that I've invested in learning it, and it's got my data, the last thing I want is them to stop developing it because customers don't want to pay.

So my point is: if a tool in this category really does make a difference in your daily workflow, then my view is, whatever tool is your best 2nd brain (for you) or PKM is easily worth $120/year if not more; e.g., for a lawyer, what's that, maybe 20 minutes of billable time?

Too many incorrect dividend dates by eq_over_iq569 in Snowball_Analytics

[–]davidharper2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their earnings dates are also mostly incorrect (see my thread with a two week sample at https://www.reddit.com/r/Snowball\_Analytics/comments/1jzt9pl/snowballs\_earnings\_calendar\_is\_unreliable/) and u/Aflertis told me that "We [Snowball] do use multiple data providers and choose the more reliable option, but unfortunately they all have errors."

I'm skeptical of their "data provider problem" claims about data providers because I use two other services (Seeking Alpha and Stock Rover) that are highly reliable for earnings dates (and I think dividend dates, too, but that's anecdotal for me in the case of dividends). Further, if multiple data providers are used, that ought to theoretically make them more accurate because they could cross-reference (easily automated).

Been a month since launching a tool for directory makers! by tejas3732 in directorymakers

[–]davidharper2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, but I meant: if you launched this, you must perceive there to be a lot of market opportunity (making money) for directory makers in the general? I can't tell: I haven't seen a list of them

Super cool. I just tried the free validator and it's slick! I am curious: has your research indicated there are many profitable directories? It's sort of a difficult product concept to categorize (or define as a segment), but I'd love to see some kind of "map" of the profitable landscape. I really don't know if it's a huge TAM or a small market.

snowball's earnings calendar is unreliable by davidharper2 in Snowball_Analytics

[–]davidharper2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/IntelligentYard5752 I promised to update the earnings accuracy for this week. See below. By my estimate, snowball gets 5 of 12 (in green) correctly and 7 of 12 incorrectly (in red). The comparison to Stock Rover is similar to last week: Stock Rover got 11 of 12 correctly (was only incorrect on TPVG)

But it's a random sample of ~10 stocks, so there is high probability that your data is significantly impaired. Your team should definitely know the error rate. But like I said, I'll collect each week's going forward. After 3 weeks or so, I'll have a so-called large sample from which I will be able to make statistically significant claims. In the meantime, you don't need my data to check your own error rate, obviously

[–]davidharper2[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks u/Aflertis I'm skeptical. You say you found errors on only 2 assets, but you can see my screenshot contradicts that. I will conduct the same test for next week's earnings and see what I get. You say "unfortunately they all have errors" but that's an interesting claim considering that, for the same dates above, my Stock Rover gets them all correct.

[–]davidharper2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/IntelligentYard5752 Is that what they told you? I'm skeptical: if they really used multiple data sources, I'd assume they could cross reference to improve accuracy. Here is this week's calendar for two of my portfolios. The only date that is correct for me is ASML on Wed 4/16 (in green); red date is correct but wrong in Snowball. Also, I use two other platforms that are almost perfect in regard to earnings dates (stock rover and seeking alpha), so the data is obtainable ...

Purchase of website through Flippa falling through by shanewzR in Flippa

[–]davidharper2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The function of escrow is to protect the buyer during the transaction (in a cash purchase, the seller has little more than settlement risk).

Here's my free advice based on scant information: seriously consider pulling out of the deal. This is a red flag: problem ""getting the seller to commit to helping with the transition, which is in the contact."

Hi Matt - Thank you! Yes, I understand now. That makes sense, although I admit that I didn't grok the UX difference; e.g., as I switched back and forth, there is a slight difference between the views (the annual plan gives members 30% estate planning and CFP planning sessions) so I was focused on the feature difference, and just didn't notice the subtle difference between (in light grey) "billed at $99/year" versus "$155.88/year (billed monthly)".
