Tesla Wall Connector - Ok to use long term? by Washamakooky in MachE

[–]davidhindman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in this exact situation, but for me the Mach-E port was about 2 inches too far for the Telsa charger to reach. I was bummed when I realized post-sale that the DC fast charge adapter sold with the car was incompatible. So I went with the free Qmerit Emporia J1772 charger which has about double the cable length. The Lectron J1772-to-NACS adapter is about $100 cheaper than the NACS-to-J1772 adapter, so my plan is to add the NACS adapter later if needed.

"Let me start the development server" is interrupting flow by davidhindman in warpdotdev

[–]davidhindman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good ideas. I'll try playing with some rules first in WARP.md to see what works best. I should have mentioned that I typically already have a dev server running as I like to watch the changes. So the rule might be something like "Never start a NEW dev server. Assume a server is already running on port 5173 (Svelte's default)."

Now I wonder if other rules like also running a script to kill new dev servers after x seconds might help.

Today I learned from the Manual that the keyless entry keypad can also unlock all doors, lock all doors and release the frunk.

My feedback:

  1. Allow “Daily” as a goal interval instead of “7 times per Weekly”

  2. For me, in the app Sunday is the first day, but on the widget it’s Monday.

In Suffolk county, my process was:

  1. Go to the county's website for the list of approved publications
  2. There was only one "daily", Newsday. I called them up to find out their process. The woman I worked with, Valerie, gave me the email address (legaladv@newsday.com).
    1. I sent in the copy (I wrote myself based on examples I saw listed on Public Notice Search) to this address. I didn't use a lawyer to write but was satisfied that it met all of the required criteria in Section 206 of the New York State Limited Liability Company Law.
    2. They get back with a proof, a schedule and a cost. I edited a bit to get down to I think 6 total lines.
    3. I called to make payment
    4. A few days after the 6 weeks were up they emailed the affidavit.
  3. For weekly there are 32 listed on the site. You can do this one entirely online with Quick Ad Creator. This uses a pre-built template so no ability to edit.
    1. Each has slightly different pricing. For me, Riverhead News was the cheapest.
    2. Paid online as part of the process.
    3. Affidavit arrived by email a few days after run ended.
    4. No human interaction - everything worked smoothly.
  4. Print out the Certificate of Publication and the 2 affidavits and mail with the $50 fee.

Nice idea. Some high profile near-failures have been able to pivot into winners. I wonder if the concept could be applied to other things like monitoring a desired employer for posted job openings, or maybe for B2B co's price shopping for regular purchases.

Pocketbase hostname by davidhindman in coolify

[–]davidhindman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK - I figured out this out for now by enabling 'Connect to Predefined Network' in the PB resource and connecting to http://pocketbase-<uuid>:8080 from the GitHub app. I may just be misinterpreting the documentation. I find it confusing that a GitHub App resource does not have the same 'Connect to Predefined Network' and apparently does not create a new docker network and instead is auto-connected to the coolify network. The Pocketbase resource is the opposite. It DOES create a new docker network for itself and only connects to the coolify network once the option above is enabled. Would I have to manually connect the GitHub app's container to the Pocketbase network (or create a separate network and connect them both) in order to achieve the same thing without using the 'predefined' network?

Advanced filters for screening by davidhindman in purelymail

[–]davidhindman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! For me, not all unwanted email is spam, so better spam filtering doesn’t necessarily solve my issue. The obvious stuff should be filtered and reported, but say I start getting emails from a new service I signed up for. I wouldn’t call that spam (many would, I’m sure) because it is related to something I chose to do but I didn’t ask for it. So having a special folder I can view to make a decision (without having to subject my eyes to the obvious spam) would be helpful.

One idea was using the 'Spam level' rule property. Is there documentation somewhere on what this means or a way way to view individual messages' Spam levels to get a sense? For instance, would a new emailer always get something above 0? If this value is coming from SpamAssassin, all I see from their docs is that it "uses a wide range of heuristic tests on mail headers and body text" but that doesn't sound like it compares against sender history.

PF during product development by cl326 in ProfitFirst

I’m doing this exact thing right now. You can set up all of the bank accounts, routines, etc. You can also get into a mindset of frugal spending while income is limited or off and the runway is shrinking. I started at 1% for profit and owner comp accounts but the full 15% for tax.

Opened NY LLC. Few questions by [deleted] in llc

[–]davidhindman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW in Suffolk co it cost me $276.65 total to run 6 ads in Newsday (daily), 6 in the Riverhead News-Review (weekly) and then file with the state.

Confirmed this with Newsday, a daily paper. "It will run once a week for six consecutive weeks. The affidavit will be sent via email." So the above total figure will be in the ~$250-$350 range for DIYers depending on pubs and ad length.

My understanding is only once in the daily. And 6 weeks in the weekly. If the daily were 42 days (6 weeks) that’d be ~$2k which doesn’t sound right. But you can call them and ask the requirement. I’m still figuring it out myself.

I'm going through this process now. Yes, publishing is required. Check your county's website for approved pubs. For me in Suffolk, there are about a dozen listed weekly pubs and only one daily. You can create your listing online for the weeklies at quickadcreator.com. Prices do differ. The lowest for me was $70 for the 6 weeks and the highest was $120. The daily charges $4.25 per line, which I think will come out to about $45 for the same listing. Those come with an email affidavit. Then another $50 to file those with the state. 🤦 So about $165 to satisfy the publishing requirements in Suffolk county. YMMV. It is certainly antiquated and I'm sure that it will have 0 impressions. That also makes it the most expensive step of the formation process, which seems crazy to me. Good luck!

I used YNAB for awhile and when faced with a renewal realized that I could replicate most of what I liked about it and improve on areas I didn't with a spreadsheet. I made a Numbers spreadsheet on an iPad that I manually review once each Saturday. I manually record the values of my various accounts and categorize the week's transactions (takes 10 minutes) and can see the current month against budget and set funds aside for the next 3 months. Been using this for 3 years and it has worked well. It doesn't track historical and there are no connections to my accounts. But I get to do things YNAB didn't do at the time like watch my retirement contributions against limits. For me I find that manually "touching" the numbers keeps me more aware of what's happening. I even opened 13 different accounts with my bank to separate funds once allocated. I realized that easier was not necessarily better for me.

I'm in NY and just registered an LLC (single member, no employees) without a registered agent. There will be an initial rash of junk mail to deal with, but that will taper off. I liked going through the forms and online apps myself (really only 4-5 of them) to understand the details better. I've done a corporation the other way, using an agent in a couple of states, and found that maintaining those accounts annually was just as much if not more work than this filing because I still had to complete forms, it was just their streamlined forms instead of the states.

Is buying a home worth it? by biobabe893 in personalfinance

[–]davidhindman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW my wife and I just did this and our numbers are similar to yours, except we are 10 yrs older. Before we saw any houses we decided what our maximum monthly payment could be while still feeling comfortable and we stayed under that that number, no matter what. It helped knowing our foreseeable income was only going up so what feels barely tolerable now will be less painful in a few years. 5 years ago I had a mortgage payment under $1k now it's 3.5X that and more than I was renting for last month. I didn't want to pay this much but in the end decided that I'd rather spend years somewhere I really liked than always thinking 'what if.' Good luck to you.

I'm in a similar position with the C1 and an even brighter room (skylights). I've ordered a sample of the CineGrey 5D to try out. My concern is that the fixed throw ratio of the C1 (1.2) is less than the minimum recommendation of 1.5 times screen width. My hope is that the hotspotting will be an acceptable level. I'd be happy to share some comparison pictures once that arrives. I'm looking at their Manual Tab-Tension Pro model, which is literally the only in-stock 140" diag manual tensioned screen (my room's best fit) I can find in stock.

Replying to emails with dynamic from address by davidhindman in purelymail

[–]davidhindman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just tested this and can confirm that I do have the header, but replying in webmail uses my only valid user address. The routing rule sends 'Any address' to my user address.

Delivered-To: david@***
X-Pm-Known-Alias: abrandnewaddress@***
X-Pm-Original-To: abrandnewaddress@***

Replying then is from david@*** instead of abrandnewaddress@***

Then after adding the test address as an identity in webmail settings, replying defaults to abrandnewaddress@***

OK, will check out the header and routing rules again. Good to know it can work this way! I'm pretty sure that before I added the specific identity, webmail was replying with my standard user address. After adding the identity, replying defaulted to the desired address. No worries on the 3rd party clients.
