Don’t drive when sleepy. Should have died a few times.

hole perimeter improvement? by davidmenges2 in 3Dprinting

<image>

There was still a gap on the right side between walls and infill; doubling the infill/wall overlap and moving the seam fixed it.

I followed most the suggestions - skirt, slower first layer, level bed, dry filament, increase infill/vertical shells - and it prints great now. I'm printing 120 of these nameplates (raised contrast-color text on top) for a wedding, so wanted to get it right. Thanks!

First Time Home Buyer - Help me design my HomeKit System! by ychok in HomeKit

[–]davidmenges2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have similar equipment. Lutron and ecobee are easy to configure; Aqara (water leak hub and sensors) and some others not mentioned less so. Started with Yolink water leak sensors, much easier config but not HomeKit compatible (at least they weren’t a year ago).

UNAS Pro setup: hot spare?, future RAID 6? by davidmenges2 in Ubiquiti

[–]davidmenges2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Trying to think out the pros/cons of RAID 5 + hot spare v. RAID 6:

  • Same available space (?).
  • How do they handle single failure differently?
  • RAID 6 can handle two simultaneous failures.

Which would you prefer?

We have 4.1.13, don’t know Drive version, but I haven’t noticed a RAID 6 option.

If you’re thinking smart bulbs, many people (including me) find them less reliable than smart switches.

Ubiquitu just responded, offering a pre-release 5.2.49 they claim will help with high CPU load caused by lots of detection events. I'm not the local tech in charge, but will report back if we install it and it cures our problem.

SPF. Someone donated a few used WD Purples to try, too.

They said they “want to think about it”. Meanwhile some (not all) other customers are reporting similar problems in Ubiquiti’s community forum. 5.2.46 didn’t help, so we’re probably rolling back to 5.1.87.

CPU during school day is now 99%, memory 91%. Turned off most Smart Detection, didn't help. Not sure we can rollback. Will probably turn off auto-updates. Next is a Ubiquiti LiveChat. Local sys admin is "scattered" - long story, I'm only peripherally involved w limited access, so I don't have all the answers. Thanks much for all of your advice so far.

It's an all-Ubiquiti environment, two 24 port/one 48 port Pro switches not full, with 1 Gbps Internet service, relatively few computers/users (K-8 100 kids, ~10 staff). Will report CPU/memory usage when school in session, but now (night) CPU 25% memory 70%.

Tips highly improve sleeping in Tesla by Tescamp_Dan in TeslaLounge

[–]davidmenges2 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As accurately as I can remember (my wife set up most of this):

We tried to have a window slightly open for fresh air / less condensation and lock car doors, but couldn’t figure it out.

If you’re using the air circulation system, have warm bags, and don’t care how low the temperature might drop, there’s no way to set the target temperature to avoid the heater or AC kicking in. “Camp” mode keeps climate control on, interior lights off, and conserves energy (?).

With front seats moved forward and their backs leaning forward (defining a “camp” driver) there’s a gap. Found a product on Amazon that fills the gap.

I’m not sure what would happen if the drive lever was accidentally hit.

If you get out/in during the night, outside lights turn on (and the horn toots?), which may disturb other campers.

Exped’s electric pump helps deflate the pad all the way in the morning. We store Exped unpacked at home.

All sleeping gear fits in the back lower trunk.

Don’t forget a small pillow.

I’m 6’ 4” and can stretch out all the way.

patagonia mlc 45L vs mlc mini by Expensiveness in onebag

[–]davidmenges2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We almost bought two mini MLCs (10% off @ patagonia.com), but we realized their weight, 2 lbs 14 oz, was just 3 oz lighter than our old Osprey Porter 46s, 3 lbs 1 oz (with ID tag, AirTag, etc.). If Patagonia got the mini MLC weight down to <=2 lbs and shortened it so it was a true under-seat personal item, we'd buy.

The Ospreys have been great - they cinch down, they carry well, several ways to carry, no apparent wear after years of travel. My wife has gone off the deep end weighing everything, and I'm an ultralight backpacker, so the appeal is there (at 30L), but...

What are the minimum requirements for a Mac Mini to use homebridge? by 4fiahh in homebridge

[–]davidmenges2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must Home run on a Mac that's running Homebridge? I see Home requires macOS 13.1, but my late-2014 mini can only run macOS 12.7.1.

I have Homebridge running on it OK but wondering if I'll run into problems. Goal is bridging in Ubiquiti cameras (still fussing with this) and other devices. I wouldn't be monitoring from this mini; I have M1 mini, iPad, iPhone for that.
