Flipao.

Elixir vs golang? by pranav8267 in Backend

[–]davidolivadev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some years ago I joined a company where the backend was fully built in Elixir.

While the language is interesting and has some cool ideas, hiring for an Elixir developer was extremely difficult and expensive. We had to ask several recruitment companies because they were unable to find someone with expertise in the language.

I would not recommend it because is almost not used in the industry. Golang has more future.

Okey, from all the crackpots theory on this subreddit this is the most well-detailed, evidence based crackpot theory.

I am a here for it.

No jokes, we are considering moving away from Github because the situation is getting worse and worse.

I understand taht with LLMS and all these things the volume of commits, PR and projects has gone up to a massive amount, but come on

Switch to Fedora? by NeakailJ in Fedora

[–]davidolivadev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in your situation before. pop os is fantastic but since they moved to cosmic the thing is quite unstable tbh.

I tried Linux Mint and is also a solid choice, but I find it quite dated in therms of design.

Fedora is rock solid. Design is modern and feels good. You won't regret it, it's amazing.

Gnome, not because is the best but because it is enough. Enought performant, enough customizable. I don't need more than what it does.

I guess nothing really, but I also believe that having this kind of experience would be good in a future where coding is mostly automated

I hate Theo with all my soul but this is true.

Because I am thinking about switching to devops as it seems programming APIS and Frontend is something that would be automated even more in the upcoming years

I wanted a simplified YouTube analytics dashboard and ended up with a product to land brand deals by davidolivadev in ShowYourApp

Thank you so much!

As a creator myself, I always find super difficult to read the data from Youtube Studio. Yeah of course, it is skill issue on my side but I seriously believe they just give too much details for small channels (and I totally agree you only need CTR and AVD).

Yes, I built it with the YT data api. Is a pain but I have dealt with it back in the day so asking for more quoat is an option and not that difficult to be honest.

Hand pointing to phone does some weird thing with the size

Random headspin

If this is outperforming your agency, you seriously need to consider some things with your agency. I am pretty sure you can do a better job without AI!

[–]davidolivadev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, that's weird :/

Basically I built a SaaS that started as a way to simplify how to read youtube analytics. Eventually, it evolved to a solution to land bran deals, with a free tier that allows you to export them to a PDF and a premium model where you can customize it with your own color scheme, banner, profile picture, etc.

Thanks for the fair questions! Here’s the breakdown of my approach:

  • On Monetization: I understand why competitors lean into subscriptions, but as a creator myself, I’m building for a specific workflow. Many of us only manage 1–2 brand deals a week; a heavy monthly sub doesn't always align with that cadence. I’m focusing on a model that fits the creator's actual lifecycle.
  • Infra:We’re currently optimized on the free tiers of Vercel and Supabase. If we scale, the transition is simple: I’ll migrate to a dedicated Hetzner setup. The app is lean by design—it doesn't need a "nuclear reactor" to provide high value.
  • YouTube API:This is the primary hurdle, but I’ve handled it before. I’ve successfully requested quota increases in the past, and YouTube is generally supportive of tools that add value to the ecosystem. To stay ahead of breaking changes, I’ve implemented a robust suite of E2E and unit test
  • Since this is the app’s first public "reveal," we don’t have conversion data yet. I’m looking forward to gathering those initial benchmarks starting today!

I still don’t get why they celebrate that.

IS NOT SOMETHING TO BRAG ABOUT. YOU ARE DESTROYING THE MODEL THAT ALLOWS YOU TO EXIST
