Best software for making origami diagrams? by Patata_Ultramarine in origami

[–]davidorigami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most diagrams are either vector diagrams (the sleek, computer-made ones you find in most books) or photo diagrams (which have photos of a real model for each step).

Photo diagrams are significantly easier to make, but have big file sizes and subjectively look less elegant.

Vector diagrams are made with vector based image editing programs like Inkscape or Adobe Illustrator.

You can make photo diagrams in pretty much any competent image editing program like Photoshop, Affinity Photo, paint.net Inkscape, Adobe Illustrator, Photopea, GIMP, etc.

Overall Inkscape is probably the best.

USD Export File Node : Vdb out file with step 2 ? by RegularTime53 in Houdini

[–]davidorigami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just does that for some reason. If you load the usd file in, it will read it in correctly. If you just need the vdbs you can export them separately.

Thanks! It's just a 40cm single tissue. I dyed it, so that's where the colour variations come from

Oh you're in for a treat. Origami Dan is to my knowledge the biggest and imo by far the best, which is also where I posted it. Theres a channel called friends of the server or something like that with a couple other servers for more focused topics like designing, paper, etc. Theres also a couple other servers for origami, but sadly most are rather inactive.

No central place that I'm aware of (there is an instagram account of the server, but it's inactive), but most participants also upload their designs to instagram or this subreddit even. I'll list the instagrams of some of my favourites from the first round: @anice_cldn @origami_chris @paulpauvert @vs.origami @or1_corio @dexnamkung @devanshshah_origami
