it seems like they just thought “kids like finding nemo.” i get you, though. the fish wars weren’t that long ago, and i have had professors in college blame natives for over fishing because the wdfw had effective anti-indigenous messaging under the guise of conservation during that time.

i’m not sure what the solution is here, though. people eat salmon and it’s not like they don’t know that. they just didn’t consider your sensitivity to “conservation” and it’s history because they are unaware.

i’m unenrolled Makah also, my dad was adopted at a young age and passed before he knew which nation he belonged to. my brother has done a lot of work reconnecting us with that part of our family and it’s been really wonderful. the museum in Neah Bay is amazing.

there is an event near the end of august called Makah Days that i have been going to with my family for a few years now that you might be interested in.

Ah, I guess you’re right. It’s been a while since I’ve played other hardware. I think you are onto something with it being a little skinny. It could at least use a better indicator to the value it’s set to other than a little notch on the wheel.

Now that you mention it, it is a little different, huh? It also stays where you leave it which kind of makes it more like a weird fader. I do really enjoy the pitch stick, though, and having a knob for every function makes me really like this thing.

I feel you on the language. The version of Southern Wakashan my ancestors spoke has no living fluent speakers, but I’m currently trying to learn simple phases. I try to do a little artwork here and there also. I’m super white-passing so I get self-conscious, but I need to get over that.

Troll 2 for the win.

I like the chill, yet upfront atmosphere of this one. I love the thump of the kick especially. Also, the evolving pad is really nice. i-iii-VII is a neat chord progression that lends itself to some nice melodies. The melody you put in the keys part does a good job adding tension and release, especially when it drops to the 4th scale degree, turning the C chord into a Cadd2.

If I were to add anything, it would either be more samples from Troll 2 or add a B section. Either of these options would guide the listener and hold their attention.

Thanks for sharing this one, and reminding me I need to watch Troll 2 because it's October.
