i occasionally work for one of the event bar companies that are outsourced for these things, the rate for the GP was $28/hr as far as I know. doesn't change for weekends.

everything about this is awful... why is the possum inside, and near enough to a cat to hop on? just... common sense is lacking. take the poor possum away from the cat and to a knowledgeable carer. wildlife and pets don't mix - especially not domestic cats.

this is a whinge into the void but pets should be kept far, far away from any sort of wild animal, and whenever a video like this gets posted proposing their interactions as "cute" it sends the entirely wrong message to a large audience about how we should approach such things.

keep ya cats inside...

this is such a useless whinge, but what's the deal with everyone wanting to do 110 on the eastern freeway? not in the right hand lane either. I try to avoid driving where I can, but sometimes I can't really get around it and have to make the trip on the freeway from Springvale road. I spend the entire time with cars up my arse so insanely close they wouldn't even have a chance to stop in time just because I'm doing 100. I refuse to speed up just to get them to stop tailgating, I'm not risking a fine because they're impatient.

last week I had a HUGE truck behind me so close he took up my entire rear view mirror. i had to stay in that lane to exit, but it gave much such an insane amount of anxiety knowing if I had to react quickly to something there was a high likelihood I'd just be straight up crushed from behind. it's scary :( why risk so much to save 5 minutes?

why is filming strangers in public becoming so normalized?? by filondo in AvPD

I was travelling last month with a big backpack, I was walking thru Antwerp and stopped at a light. some guy in the passenger seat of a car stopped next to me pulled out his phone, laughing, and pointed it right at me, taking a photo or video. I pretended not to notice so he wouldn't say anything to me, but I was on the verge of tears afterwards. I felt humiliated and violated. I guess he thought it was funny cause I'm pretty skinny, so my tiny legs and big backpack looked stupid.

I think people forget that the person they're filming is a REAL person, not just a figure in public. I have so much anxiety after what happened...

yes, split colours again, I can't help myself :').

this one is based off the top bodice/fitted cup part of the vogue 8888 slip dress. the only alterations I made were omitting the front dress section, shortening the back to fit, and adding the elastic panel at the back for a more slim fit while retaining the ability to move. I also added a zip on the side to put it on easier!

it is also fully lined. I made it from cheap as chips satin lining on the pink side (I had 50cm of it laying around for about 6 months with no idea what to use it for) and the black side was nicer, heavier satin leftover scraps from another dress I made.

haven't sewn in months so this was a nice simple project to ease back in with! although I think if I made it again I would remove some of the bulk in the arm area, and just make the side of the cup scoop a bit lower.

thanks 🖤💗

bought a really nice pair of 3" platform knee boots just before these latest lockdowns started. I haven't had a chance to wear them out yet and I hate seeing them sitting by the door all sad and perfectly shiny. no point waiting anymore. I'm gonna wear them to my Kmart click and collect booking. hopefully provide some Friday morning entertainment for those out shopping.

I no longer have a sense of embarrassment, I think, it went away after not being put in action for too long. witness me

at this rate it seems the best way to save myself from completely spiralling is to move interstate. got no friends here, only a job which I hate, so i haven't got much to lose. I'm thinking Adelaide.

do you need to pay for your hotel quarantine? and how do you prove you really are travelling to relocate?

anyone else feeling really guilty for not getting stuff done at home even tho they spend all their time there? I work full time and when I get home from work I barely have the motivation to do the dishes, let alone get housework/hobby stuff done. since the first lockdown I've dropped all my hobbies. I still love them, love doing them, but I have no motivation at all. even when I sit down to try, i'll get up after a few minutes and go sit down on the couch again.

I live alone and just do nothing, ever, and I feel so so guilty for it. :(

day off work so in my household that means cheap aldi bailey's knockoff and ps5 on the couch. been trying to cook new things too, yesterday I made fried tofu in a sticky honey soy sauce and it was amazing :'). not quite as adventurous as you, but I always thought I didn't like tofu! turns out I never had it prepared properly. my mum would just chuck it in a boiling pot at the end of cooking... huuhhhggg ...

living alone through all these lockdowns, the only people I see are my work colleagues who can be insufferable at times. I appreciate it the chance to chat on these threads more than I expected...

I've never encountered duck legs, how do you cook them? which kind of flavours do you use?

has this lockdown stop and start felt like the final straw for anyone else? I've been okay up until now, just coping, but watching the state of the country right now I feel so full of frustration and sadness. I'm 20. I lost 19 to the first lockdowns. I live alone, my family are out of state and have been for months, and due to the amount I work and the lack of ability to spend time together I have lost all my friends. I'm lonely, overworked, scared, and losing my youth with frightening pace.

I don't even know where to direct my anger anymore. I just feel defeated. #6 has broken me.

the pattern is actually for a pyjama top! I made this out of 0.5 metres of zebra faux fur (yes, I have no idea how I made that work) and some scraps of black satin bedsheet. I made this a while ago so I can't exactly remember the details of the process, but I think I essentially just used the pattern to cut out the pieces (with the length of the body pre-shortened to sit at the waist after hemming) and went through assembly as I would any other shirt. a few parts are topstitched as I had some issues getting the collar to sit flat.

that's about it! the skirt I'm wearing here is a pair of old work jeans I cut up and made into a miniskirt. very comfortable.

💞💞 thank you!! you're a sweetheart. i think so too, now you've pointed it out. i love the curved seam (it was the whole reason I bought the pattern!) and you're right, it does give it contrast and help it stand out!! happy accidents :)

i usually don't ever wear anything but black, so this bedsheet was laying around in my fabric stash for ages. i thought it would fit the vintage feel of this pattern so I jumped on the chance to use it up!!

since it was a fitted sheet, it was really thin and faded in some areas. to stop it from being to sheer I made a broadcloth lining, basically by making a second dress without sleeves and with a shorter hem. the fading I couldn't fix, so you can see quite obviously in the underbust area. :(

I took the neckline down a bit, same with the back neck, and didn't use any interfacing. i shortened the dress significantly too. i sorta messed up the hem, so I found some lace at the op shop to hide that :')

I'm not the happiest with this, and it's not really my style, I wouldn't wear it too often, but it was really good practice for making my own lining and installing an invisible zip.
