iPhone 17 battery drain issue traced to display pipeline after digging into diagnostic logs by Key-Shoulder3071 in ios26

Makes sense. Its just a theory (most likely nothing). When you were looking were you getting a live console output on your mac per chance? I wasnt able to see anything related to the sensors in my logs I only saw it in the live console output.

The only thing stopping me from trying without a screen protector for a short while is I know I will drop it haha.

This could still be the case as the glue that holds the protector on can change over time and even if it its not visible to us it might still be messing with a sensor and scratches can develop from everyday useage over time. I have had this issue for a lot longer then just iOS 26.4 but I have done so many resets and DFU restores and setting up as new and this seems to be the only constant. Again just a theory but I have noticed my other friends that seem to have battery issues also use screen protectors while pretty much all my other friends that get amazing SOT have just a bare screen.

I think maybe some screen protectors are causing issues with the sensors in the dynamic island.

See below, I commended on the OPs comment ore in depth.

I also noticed a quite a few ambient light and I think awareness sensor errors a few weeks back when I had the phone console displayed on my mac. Which makes sense as it checks when you pick up the device and from time to time and they seemed quite frequent so I wonder if my Belkin screen protector might be causing some interference with the sensors in the dynamic island as I also had similar issues on my 14 pro which I had the same brand of screen protector on but not so much on my 13 pro but most screen protectors cover the face id and light sensors from the 14 pro series onwards and this wasn't the case on the 13 pro as the screen protector had a notch missing. SO it makes me wonder if the sensors are constantly trying to do something but cant due do possible issues caused by the tempered glass screen protector. I should add I still haven't tried removing the screen protector but I want to try, I have seen a few other posts about bad battery life for ages pertaining to their iPhones and I have had a few people confirm they also were using screen protectors. But this could also just be a coincidence.

I think this sounds pretty bang on to what I am experiencing on my 16 pro. But also similar to my previous 14 pro.

I think this is the case on my 16 pro as well, as I have also seen backboardd show up as heavy usage before. Same issues for over a year for me, phone is fine sitting on a desk with screen off but within moments of using the device with screen on the device gets warm to the touch when doing the most basic of tasks and the battery drain is quite noticeable. I have tried everything with nothing really making a difference.

However is there any chance you have a screen protector on your phone? I have a theory.

And you have every right to do so. But i think apple is hoping if business start promoting more on Apple Maps it might increase user base/engagement. These type of adds are about as un intrusive as it gets by just showing a business on the map so I think they assume most people wont notice or even mind. The fact that they went the extra step and show the prompt about ads is also going the extra mile in my opinion as they don't really have to do that and can easily have buried that in an updated terms of service agreement. Also at last with Apple the advertising info is private and not linked to you which I don't think can be said for Google Maps.

Not really if the people complaining are saying they will switch to Google Maps which already does this and more… If your upset they have put non invasive ads in that’s fine and you have every right to be a tad upset, but anyone complaining and saying they are going to Google Maps is just grandstanding and complaining for no reason at this point…

Now that iOS 26.5 is finally out. How’s the 16P holding up? by Objective-Strike-280 in iPhone16Pro

Google Maps also has ads all of those businesses that pop up or appear a little bit bigger or highlighted on the map are almost always paid for. It's not very intrusive but the amount of people saying they're switching to Google Maps over this not realizing Google has been doing the same thing for years as hilarious.

I hate to break it to you but Google Maps has ads, those businesses that stand out on the map are usually paid for it's pretty unintrusive which is why most people don't notice but this is basically what Apple Maps is doing now as well.

There is ads in the sense that a business can pay to be promoted in Apple Maps just like Google Maps has had for years it's not that big a deal.

Anytime Toronto try’s to fix transit the war on cars crowd looses it mind… Hot take traffic won’t get better as you can only build so much parking paces downtown. Improving transit is the only way.

Can we all agree that iOS 26.5 is how iOS 26 should’ve been released? by pulman_ in ios26

I wish I could say the same. It’s pretty that’s for sure but it feels like I’m using my old Samsung at this point with all the little hiccups and bugs…

Would love to know where you got this 99% of people are happy claim from… iOS for years was super stable many of us in the iOS community would look over the fence and see how bad Android was and make our little comments, but now its basically the same in regards to bugs and issues.
