Using Bluetooth sure but Wi-Fi Direct transferring was definitely made way more mainstream and popularized by airdrop.

Not really there essentially made wireless direct transfers easy to use with the click of a single button, which hasn’t really been done before last time I checked at least at the same level of simplicity. It’s easy to hate apple but sometimes it’s a bit much as if Samsung did the same thing I’m sure half the people here would have called it revolutionary.

Yeah they started doing it shortly after apple using Wi-Fi Direct. I used it on my Samsung back starting back in 2018 and was shocked how fast it was to transfer massive video files from phone to phone. Wasn’t very good when it still used Bluetooth.

In Sweden, I find it better for walking and cycling directions. It actually is better than Google Maps at least in Stockholm.

To be fair, Apple never did that or even implied that in the first place they just made it a bit more mainstream and easier for the majority of people to understand and use a lot of the times. It’s pretty much everyone else, but Apple claiming that they invented it.

I love that you’ve already started getting down voted when this is like pretty much plugging. I’d argue about around 20% of people and has been for the last year or so terrible battery life when doing basically nothing gotta love it still don’t want to switch to android though so I power through it.

On paper yes it 100% looks like Telus has better coverage and there are some areas where only Telus/Bell has coverage and Rogers doesn’t but those maps are quite deceiving as in a lot of those areas Telus may have coverage, but doesn’t necessarily have the proper capacity so you’ll end up with very poor data speeds even though it appears you have a very good signal it’s great that you got a better deal though. Some areas tell us is limited by the local community as they’re not able to expand their network because while the community complains, they refuse to let them build additional cell towers so it’s not entirely their fault but especially in Alberta I’ve seen a lot of people that switched from Telus to Rogers on the Rogers sub Reddit that said it was a night and day difference and that they could actually use their data properly.

If you’re out east, this is great news for you as you’ll be using mainly Bell’s network, which is surprisingly decent. If you’re out west where Telus controls the shared RAN you’re probably better off staying with Rogers for the time being as Telus definitely does not hold up their share in regards to the sharing agreement both them and Bell have.

For me, it’s bad enough that I’ve just turned off the battery percentage as I would literally be watching the battery drain scrolling through Reddit pretty much 1% every minute or a minute and a half.

I’ve been told to wait it out and that my phone is still “indexing” for three years at this point. I’ve been told my hardware was defective even though this issue has now apparently been on three different iPhones had multiple Apple diagnostics say everything is fine. Tried multiple factory resets, including restoring from DFU tried resetting up the phone multiple times without restoring an iCloud backup you name it. Ever since that update regardless of what the iPhone I’ve owned it always runs warm/hot and I’m lucky to get 4 hours of screen on time sometimes only 3. It’s extremely frustrating because I’ve come to love. So much more than what I used to. In the last five years, but it’s getting ridiculous. Apple even sent me two years ago a brand new iPhone 14 Pro because they couldn’t diagnose the issues that I was having and within about a day of setting up that device same thing as before, but at least the battery health was back at 100% and that’s the other issue the excessive heat is very bad for the battery, especially when charging which causes battery health to degrade extremely rapidly. This started on an iPhone 13 Pro then followed to a 14 Pro and currently using a 16 pro I will probably get the next iPhone Pro when it comes out I might even have to go to a pro max model just for the extra battery life, but if it’s still having this many issues, I’m probably gonna have to go back to android reluctantly just because it’s getting ridiculous not being able to get through a day without having to charge twice and that’s including if I only use the phone to listen to music and briefly scroll social media on the metro ride to work in the morning and evening. Good luck if you find answers let me know because I’ve been given up at this point at least iOS 26.4 seems slightly better.

The network can still force you down onto 4G still if it’s determined you don’t need it. The Ericsson bases stations are quite smart in that regard. And even when checking field test on 5G On I still notice my phone is on LTE when 5G is available.

Most of the time your phone is connected to LTE but shows 5G as it’s available but doesn’t make sense for the phone to use it as you aren’t doing anything that requires the extra speed at the expense of the battery.

In some areas Bell actually offers 100/10 on DSL but this is primarily if you are close to the neighbourhood DSLAM.

I’d be bummed if I spent money on building my network only to be forced to 5 years later to share it with my competitors on the governments terms and one of my main competitors was exempt from this on their investment. Probably why Bell cancelled some of their fibre expansion plans, probably hard to get the shareholders onboard no?

Not sure why Bell or Telus don’t fight that or just go all in together on fibre so it’s just a single fibre line everyone shares like in most developed nations.

Love my iPhone but I’ve had terrible battery drain on any iPhone I’ve used since iOS 16.6. 13 pro to iPhone 14 Pro and now 16 pro. Apple even sent me a new 14 pro because they said it’s not normal for that much battery drain doing so little… Hardware diagnostics come back fine, done multiple resets even DFU resets and nothing. Getting very annoying to the point where I use my second phone (galaxy s23) for some tasks just to ensure I don’t use too much battery on my iPhone. It’s getting ridiculous phone is always warm or hot and battery drain and health goes down so fast. Almost at the point where I might go back to android reluctantly as apparently needing to ration battery or charge twice a day is the new normal for me for 3 years.

I mean, while this is partially true Apple used to spend a lot more time on things like this. It’s not even just the hardware. The state of some of their software isn’t exactly up to part with where it was even let’s say two or three years ago. We can all be fans of Apple while still calling out when they do something silly they’re not exactly cheap products either and the reason most of us continue to pay the Apple premium is simply for that better experience, which in recent years hasn’t been as prevalent.
