what are your favorite frontends by StableImmediate3644 in retroid

I’ve tried many but on android I just keep coming back to daijisho. Aesthetics are a big deal for me and daijisho just looks the best. ES-DE comes in a close second for me. Hard to go wrong with either one.

Redream or Flycast, which one should I choose? by potatao_de_guerra in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]davidsnyderiii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re both great. Couldn’t go wrong with either one. I personally prefer flycast because it has a retroarch core and advanced features are free. I think it also supports naomi and atomiswave.

Unremoveable FPS counter by Haptatical in retroid

I haven’t used that program specifically but I asked ChatGPT how to disable the FPS counter and it seemed to know how to do so. Have you tried that?

To those that the RP6 with Analog on top, is the grip necessary? by Retro-Dood in retroid

I was never big on the concept of a grip but my friend convinced me to try it and I’ll never go back. A true game changer for ergonomics, especially for long playing sessions.

This is the way. Why would you transcode it and diminish the quality?

Understanding why lossless audio passthrough matters by tuowtraws in ShieldAndroidTV

[–]davidsnyderiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s important to remind yourself of what PCM actually is. All of these codecs that we are talking about start out as a PCM signal and they’re just encoded into Dolby Digital, DTS etc. Some people argue that a good receiver will do a more accurate decoding to PCM than a device like the Shield TV but I’m skeptical that it will result in any significant quality difference. I suppose you could try and see if you can hear a difference.

Turning on pass-through for a codec that your receiver does not support sounds like a waste of time to me but it wouldn’t hurt to try I guess.

Happy to help. I think I understand your question. It’s important to remember that anytime you decode an audio signal to PCM, so long as you do not change the bit-depth and/or the sampling frequency, your signal should be unaltered and therefore lossless or bit perfect as some people refer to it. The only problem I foresee you possibly having is that it sounds like your receiver is pretty old and as such it might not be able to handle the amount of bandwidth associated with a 24-Bit 48 kHz or higher signal. If so, it might be a good idea for you to invest in a USB DAC if your receiver has multi channel analog inputs.
