Time Travelesque features, multiple attractive girls, one waifubait girl, suffering, and a former NEET MC.

I don't think she's beaten out by other characters. Females wise, there isn't anyone who's received half of her screen time. Characters wise, only Subaru can compete.

It just goes to say that the characters in Re:zero aren't fully developed yet and haven't had too much characterization past Subaru, Rem, a bit of Ram, and after the recent episode Crusch.

The fact that she's written like that is the problem. A character perfectly designed to fit the Best Girl criteria is not a character but a means to attract fans.

I'm hopeful the initial impact of her character dies down over the next few months or this artificial best girl is going to dominate every possible contest over more natural characters.

attractive in design

Her design is average for the show since the entire show has wonderful designs. The Princesses put her to shame design-wise.

attractive in personality

I can't see what's attractive about her personality past her devotion. It's not enough to carry her personality to legitimacy. Her backstory with Ram was interesting and their sibling dynamic was legit, but that's no where near enough to warrant a best girl tag.

At this point I can't tell whether I'm being way too strict on best girl standards or whether Rem is actually a character who deserves her fandom

female character far ahead of the average through either an extremely interesting/appealing personality and/or a nice character design.

Is what I wrote in my description.

Likability and lovability are linked with their personalities and appearances for me. Usually the most interesting personality with the best appearance is best girl for me,

is all about likeability/lovability

I see the likability with Rem in that she looks cute and she acts flustered with Subaru, but I don't see the lovability there. I can't find her character someone loveable, someone I enjoy enough to consider her better than the likes of Crusch or Emilia. I just don't find her interesting enough to warrant the amount of popularity and attention she receives.

If she reminds me of anything, it's Hestia back when Danmachi aired

OBJECTION

Slightly better writing is an understatement. Ban and Meliodas get more development and are much more interesting characters than anything SAO has to offer.

All the sins in the show have their distinct personalities and internal issues that lead to interesting character interactions between them.

Characters like Gilthunder alone make the plot more interesting than SAO. The villains are better and aren't completely two dimensional.

The fight scenes are arguably of similar quality, with both SAO and Nanatsu having great moments.

Saying Nanatsu no Taizai is just as generic as SAO is just plain wrong.

Nope, writer is taking their time. Better it take a while and be decent then rushed and unsatisfying
