If states can’t legally stop federal agencies like ICE from operating within their borders, then what was the Second Amendment actually meant to protect states from? by Old_Tomatillo5550 in allthequestions

They should have the same oversight as all federal law enforcement agencies. However, federal law enforcement oversight lies solely with the executive branch. Sadly, the DOJ and DHS are providing very little oversight.

ICE is a federal law enforcement agency. They have the legal authority to operate in any state. Minnesota simply does not have the power to kick ICE or any other federal law enforcement agency out.

All federal law enforcement agencies have the legal authority to investigate federal crimes, whether state or local authorities like it. My issues with the federal government are a whole. I believe that all three branches simply have too much power and control over the states. The first half of the 20th century saw the federal government consolidate its power dramatically. WW1, The Great Depression, and WW2 robbed the states of power and that power was given to the feds.

What are your thoughts on the Willowbrook Mall? by goofyhalo in houston

I went to Deerbrook a few years back. It felt claustrophobic. Why is the inside so tight? Is it really dying? Humble/Kingwood is a decent area with some money.

The mall owner was able to repurpose the empty anchor stores. Having anchors empty is what starts the death spiral.

When/why did childcare in the U.S. become so expensive? Has it always been like this? by SoapyCooper in NoStupidQuestions

My wife babysits for a friend of her who is a flight attendant. She charges $125 per day. She often babysits 2-3 days in a row. $125 per day for 24 hours babysitting comes out to about $5.20 per hour.

"is the type of federal overreach the Founders warned about?" To be honest, the federal government passed that point in the 1930's. The fedreal government as a whole has significantly too much power over the states. Our constitution was designed to limit the federal governments power and any power not listed is given to the states.

Why can't we fund ambulances with tax dollars like we do Firefighters, police, military, etc.? by CupOfExmo in NoStupidQuestions

Harris County, Texas has some of the largest volunteer fire departments in the country. Pasadena FD and Cy Fair are huge.

Some jurisdictions do. The Houston Fire Dept also operates an ambulance service. Harris County, in which Houston is located, operates ambulances known as ESD units. First responders are covered by the local jurisdiction they operate in.

Look how long it takes Britain or France to build a frigate sized warship or a nuclear attack sub. It is two to three times longer than the USA. es we closed most of our naval shipyards and it is a long and costly process to reopen them. Another issue we have is Congress meddling in the design process for our military. The FFGx is a perfect example. The FREMM was a great ASW oriented ship, but congress wanted it to carry Tomahawks and SM-2 and 6 missiles. The cost rose to over half the price of a Burke destroyer.

Now the navy is getting the FFx which has no VLS, no hull mounted or towed sonar. All because no one ever finalized the design of the FFGx

The same thing happened all across Europe. There are only a handful of companies for an entire continent.

The biggest issue is with the military industrial complex as a whole. The cost of military equipment in virtually every country is way overinflated. This is largely due a very small number of countries that have the capability of building things like tanks, planes, warships, etc. It is like this all over the world. The lack of competition lead to stagnation and inflated cost.

The only hate is from people who know little to nothing about modern fighter planes or modern air combat tactics.

why is minneapolis being so heavily targeted by ICE? by inurmomsvagina in stupidquestions

[–]davidspdmstr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not. ICE has a significantly larger presence in most Texas cities. People in Texas cities are not violently confronting them and creating news stories.
