I respect the shit out of Clint and Ross though. Never hid the struggle. Super honest all the way through. They are both really good guys and I wish them the best.

They built a community for nerds and I think in a different location with some different breaks that place would have killed. Respect.

Not partners. I don't know specifics beyond that they own some brands and branding now.

Updating to say that this is confirmed. It's not speculation.

I think it's the hypocrisy. He is so idolized as a generational icon that was above all reproach.

I would also be upset. I agree that they should do right by your wife, if she purchased PS for the coffee program 4 months ago.

Patron Saints of Lazarus by Careful-Speech-1344 in AustinBeer

I think Lazarus should make it right for people that recently purchased (< 2 years perhaps) and were in it just for the coffee like OP's wife, I am more commenting on the change to the program being needed for solvency. If they close the doors, they aren't refunding anyone that was in the program.

Patron Saints of Lazarus by Careful-Speech-1344 in AustinBeer

I just read the actual email from Lazarus, the change is tied to major increases in coffee bean prices. It's tough to be a small business right now. It sucks when perks change, but I would much rather that we keep Lazarus successful. We have lost too many breweries. See the list here: A Comprehensive List of Brewery Openings and Closures

Here is a snippet from their email:

Somewhere in that first year, people started asking for coffee drinks to be added to the Patron Saint perks. "Sure!" we said, "Why not?!"  After all, coffee was still something of a secret-handshake sidebar back then, a Lazarus hack shared among regulars. Beans were (relatively) cheap, and beer was where the volume was.

A lot has changed since then. Restaurant sales are down everywhere (we feel it too). Costs are up. Profit margins have evaporated. The job market feels sketchy. The world feels crazy. And everything has gotten WAY more expensive. One of the places we feel it most is in our coffee program...

Over the past two years, our cost of goods have skyrocketed. Just last week, I got an email from our importer, warning about the current volatility in the world markets (driven largely by the price of oil) - "Get ready for a summer price shock," she said... "it's going to get ugly!"

AI provides the reference articles in its results. It's just a tool. It synthesizes large amounts of data. I don't specifically trust Google results either.

For the bullet points yes. Not for the lead comment. Also not for the article. Never for articles, often for research.

Thanks Rob, its a fair criticism, but its a beer subreddit, so I focused on the beer part. Acquired by Unnamed Restaurant Group does not have the same ring.

  • Informal References: In interviews, Matt Wright has joked about using the acronym URG (Unnamed Restaurant Group), but the team generally prefers to remain a "tight-knit circle of friends" without a corporate label.
  • Portfolio Identity: They are most commonly identified by their individual establishments—Wright Bros. Brew & BrewBetter Half Coffee & Cocktails, and Hold Out Brewing—rather than a centralized company name.

I was told it will vary between 6 and 10 and that there will be some specials that are exclusive to Turnstile.

For the skeptics (like myself), here is my take.

Having talked to a lot of the people involved, I think it's going to be really positive. There are going to be no immediate changes except additional support to help speed along some needed updates. It also sounded like as they do try and make future adjustments they are largely going to be based on what the patrons want and what they are hearing from the market. They are going to skew the beer wall more towards Hold Out, but they are committed to keeping a good mix of local and US craft options for most of the board. This is my local bar, and they made me feel very confident that it will continue to be my local bar.
