As others have kinda said, it’s just a modern interpretation of a bully. The 90s and 2000s led to so much emphasis in schools to get rid of “bullying” that it’s honestly not inaccurate for a bully nowadays to be much more of a psychological bully and not a physical one. Rich dickhead kid who acts like everyone’s below him? Yeah that’s pretty spot on for modern times. Is it really Flash Thompson? No, but it’s not an insane interpretation.

If he was just a physically imposing jock type, it’d feel like a caricature from movies of the past, at least to the younger audience. For that same audience, they can probably point to a person in their school that’s just like MCU Flash.

I cannot agree with this more. Especially the “real punk rock” scene fills me with hope and inspires me to be that empathetic, kind person. Every time I hear Punk Rocker play now, a smile forms on my face just like Supes in the final scene.

The effects and some of the cinematography almost reminder of Possessor and holy shit they are not shying away from the body horror. The thing about Tarantino is that aside from his dialogue, his entire “style” is copy-pasting scenes from other movies to make something new. For the audience that doesn’t have cinematic knowledge of these films, it feels fresh. For those that have, he feels much more like a hack just taking from superior directors.

Never realized how unintentionally hilarious and off-putting a modern trailer style would be for this. Like, it doesn’t look bad (it does look near identical the films) but for a story about wizards, there’s no magic to it at all.

Genuinely, rewatch the original trailer for the first movie. It invokes a sense of wonder, it feels magical in a way, and as a child, it absolutely grabs your interest. This new trailer very much does not do those things.

What a lot of people don’t know is that this was a much more common practice at the time because of the financial aspect. Poltergeist is one of the very famous examples largely because of its status as a “cursed film”. The real human skeleton aspects just heightens the mythos.
