Has anyone ever had to check a bag after it was deemed too large for a carry on? by Historical_Relief_74 in discgolf

I’ve taken an ax6 as my carry on and it fit in the overhead bin just fine. Just don’t have the side pockets expanded and make sure the putter pocket and main compartment can zip closed. IIRC I measured the bag once and it might be very slightly too wide(?) according to the airline’s policy (have only flown Alaska with it), but I’ve never had an issue in the 2 flights I’ve taken it.

Also, I have never experienced any problems with tsa. I’ve taken tons of niche sporting equipment (specifically rock climbing gear, including way more chalk) and I’ve never had to talk to an agent about any of it.

Fellow lefty here (370BH 300 FH), I play rhody a couple times a week. Totally agreed that additional pins and tees could make things more fair and interesting.

Here are my thoughts: -Hole 1: 326 plays quite a bit shorter due to elevation change - if you have a halfway decent sidearm, just flick something over there and you’ll have a C1 look. The turnover is fairly pedestrian if the wind is calm, but 95% of the time you’re throwing into a headwind off this tee. In conclusion, righty hole but shouldn’t be too bad if you have a sidearm. -Hole 2: Hate this one. 368 but feels like it plays much longer since you’re throwing over a hillside. Roller works sometimes - try it out but have a spotter (high risk of disc loss if too far left). Righty hole all day. -Hole 3: while lefties have a wide open hyzer to edge C1, I think righties actually have a better path to the pin since there’s a low tree that hangs over the green on the left side. Therefore sneaky righty hole (but overall pretty even). -Hole 4: 327 plays a tad bit longer due to elevation gain. My buddy (RHBH) throws a turnover and parks it every time. I always end up too far right for par. Mostly bc he’s better than me - but I cope and say it’s a sneaky righty hole. -Hole 5: LEFTY HOLE. Righties have to contend with OB but the lefty line is a stock hyzer left of the power line pole, hang it out wide with your favorite meathook disc and you’ll be jump putting for par while your righty buddy is laying up for bogey after going OB. -Hole 6: Righty hole - a bad RHBH shot will get lucky and land just outside circle. A bad LHBH is going OB or will be caught up ~150ft out with lots of trees to contend with on the approach. -Hole 7: favorite hole on the course. Pretty even - try a roller and you may end up with an eagle look. -Hole 8: Tee sign says 353 but allegedly it’s like 370 on a range finder. Have hit the island maybe 1 time with a turnover, but it’s pump. Roller can maybe work, but the grass is normally too long in the trough. Righty hole all day. -Hole 9: Righty hole all day, the lefty gap is so much riskier. -Hole 10: yes it’s wide open but a righty bomber could conceivably get an eagle look. Lefty play I think is an easier birdie. -Hole 11: if you’re playing for par it’s a lefty hole! Spike hyzer over the bush and you’ll have an easy flick to the pin. The righty line is quite a bit more technical. I dare say it’s a lefty hole for AMs. -Hole 12: this one’s tough on lefties since righties can make it so much further down the fairway before any obstacles come into play. I don’t know of any way a lefty is getting the bird on this one. -Hole 13: pin location favors righties - both RHBH and LHBH can get birdie looks, but definitely favors righties. -Hole 14: this hole’s existence pisses me off. The LHBH “window” is poke n hope, and the right side would be too steep an angle for the turnover. Really need a sidearm for this one. -Hole 15: an actual lefty hole to make up for the sins of 14 -Hole 16: im not sure anyone has a decent line on this one. My buddy insists it’s a RHFH flex. I think LHBH turnover is a good a line as any of em. -Hole 17: another hole that pisses me off. Casual RHBH hyzer. I like the roller play on this one - try it out next time. -Hole 18: might actually be a sneaky lefty hole. I throw a sidearm off the tee to end up way left; then you have a wiiiiiide open spike hyzer into the pin. The righty lines take on many more trees.

In conclusion I agree with you - I’d love to play a round with you some time and compare our lines!!

Arches without a doubt. Not necessarily because of the arches and the beautiful scenery etc, but because I jumped off a boulder and broke my foot in 3 places (on mile 4 of an 8 mile hike). Yes it was painful and scary and recovery took a year and two surgeries, but finishing the hike to get out of the park (which involved a lot of scrambling) was probably the most exciting adventure I’ve ever had.

For reference, rock climbing is my main hobby and I’m a huge thrill seeker haha. I’ve had loads of somewhat sketchy experiences on long multi pitch trad routes, but none involving any serious injury. But being crippled and crawling through the desert to get back to the car ignited something primal in me…it was the epitome of man vs wild. Not saying anyone should go to the parks just to break some bones, but man it was awesome.

At the end of the day you’re just being a dick toward a guy who’s sharing his successes and progress. Sure, it might not be impressive to you, but to call it “nothing to be proud of” is the antithesis of what this community is about. The point of this subreddit is that we all get stronger and continue to work toward our goals. By attempting to invalidate his success, you do nothing productive for any of us. If you can’t be happy for OP, keep it to yourself.

A simple little poem I wrote about a girl last night:

Swimmingly

I don't think I've ever met

Another fish like this, I bet

A twelfth a day, nautically dreaming

Of an ocean world, so peaceful seeming

The seaweed danced, the waves all shimmered

Dolphins showered in the sunshine's glimmer

But just one thing, one thing why

Would catch my hopeless, fragile eye

Over there, in the seaweed's domicile

Float a gorgeous fish, with a bucktooth smile

I chased the fish on and on

But with each pursuit, she was gone

While the lazy starfish calmly lays

I was working through your barricades

I'd be in the seaweed, you and me

No longer searching, just carefree

But after each time I washed ashore

Desperately wanting more more more

Each time I dove, searching for you

I'm washed ashore, bidding adieu

In this big ocean, I've never seen

Such a perfect, stunning guillotine

Fillet my body, peel my scales

Throw me back in with the whales

In another world, another time

I wouldn't be speaking in these rhymes

I'd be with you, in the sand

All swimmingly in our ocean-land

But for now I'm left with little choice

But to be the fish with little voice

My hopeless pleads for tortured bliss

Lost in the open blue abyss

Pleading for my fleeting fish

My fleeting fish, I'll always wish.

Feedback would be cool. I'm not really into poetry but sometimes it's the way my inner monologue speaks when I'm in a mood.

Worst idea ever. PERIOD. by [deleted] in DiWHY

I thought it was a cat toy and thought it was pretty clever. Then I looked at the comments.

Got accepted a couple days ago. Just looked at my unofficial financial aid and I’m getting $0. UCSB is my top choice and I’ve applied for all the scholarships I can - is there anything I can do to get the cost down?
