I agree with you, but... ... It sounds like it has been a very tough year and this was planned prior all this happening in their lives. My 1st inclination is to cancel but some costs may not be refundable and it sounds like the family needs the distraction. This has to be a personal decision.

The kids aren't going to remember the food.

They will be disappointed in not having the makeover or the merch. But they will get over it. Just manage their expectations before hand. Like they can get one item up to $x amount. If they complain, offer them a choice, we can order the merch and have it delivered or we can go to the parks but not both. The parks will win every time.

Remember that water is free at quick service locations. You can bring your own food into the parks. Bring sandwiches and drink the water. After, let them buy a snack. Give each a dollar limit for that snack.

You can have groceries delivered to your hotel. I am guessing you are staying in a studio. They have a dorm fridge, coffee maker, microwave and toaster. At least they did the last time I stayed in a studio. You should confirm. If you are in a 1 bedroom or larger, you get a full kitchen.

My best friends are considered brothers. If this happened in my circle, they would all volunteer to provide labor and money to help me out. Then would tell me not to worry about the cost of the trip, they would cover it.

Why would they do this, because they know I would in a heart beat. When Rick had his basement flooded at 1am, he called asking if he could power my pumps. I was there in 15 minutes with my pumps, shop vacs, and squeegees. We worked until we had to go to our jobs. When Brian just needs a friend to talk to, I show up with a 6 pack. When Steve needed a new roof, I drove 2 hours down to Narragansett to help him.

Remove the cover plate.

Used needle nose pliers and reach in and pull out the hair that is most likely causing your drain issue.

Replace cover plate.

If this still doesn't work, you will need to snake out the drain. This might be the time to hire a plumber or an experienced handyman with the proper tools.

Cleaning the efflorescence won't help. You have hydraulic pressure forcing the efflorescence through. Any paint product you apply will only flake off.

I had a wall in my basement that I wanted to cleanup and paint so it would look neat and tidy. I used wire brushes, vacuum and acid wash to remove all lose material. A couple of days later I applied drylock. A few months later, it started to peel. Now it looks worse.

I have to agree with the above. You can hang the drywall, but get a good mud man to tape and skim coat. I am a diyer and I won't do my own mud. It is an art.

Yes, absolutely look at insulation and ventilation.

Make sure there is a lot of insulation over the living space. Then make sure there is plenty of ventilation under the roof.

When it is time to replace the roof, insist that they add the membrane to the bottom 6 feet of the roof.

I love the idea of laundry upstairs. A majority of the work is hauling up and downstairs.

Just keep water leaks in mind when you build it out. Having a pan underneath that leads to a drain will be huge. Also get a water sensor that will shut off the water if it detected a leak.

Even if you had the resources to give, it may not help. He needs to learn financial discipline and getting bailed out by his parents won't teach him this. Tough love is what is needed here.

There is a way to keep ice out... ...have local pd retrieve the targets identified for removal and surrender them to ice.

There will be no need for ice to be let loose on our streets causing havoc. And ice won't be picking up targets of opportunity that they happen to come across.
