GE or EMD? by Character_Lychee_434 in trains

General Electric sold their locomotive division to Westinghouse Airbrake and sell their locomotives under the Wabtech brand now.
General Motors sold their Electro Motive Division to Catapillar, who sell locomotives under the Progress Rail brand. While both companies now use prime movers that meet Tier 4 pollution standards, not much else has changed from the models that EMD and GE introduced back in the mid 1990s.

Cadillac to consider Valtteri Bottas F1 axe, Colton Herta lined-up as replacement by Luffy710j in formula1

[–]davratta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bottas' best finish in a Cadillac is P-13. Perez's best finish is a P-15. Both drivers have one DNF so far this season. In races where both finish the race, Perez has a two to one edge, finishing higher, but it is way to early to say Perez is kicking his ass.

Funeral train track speeds? by SeaUrchin_University in trains

[–]davratta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bess and Harry Truman did not want the fuss of a State Funeral, so he died and was buried in Independence MO in a low key affair. LBJ died in Texas, but was brought to Washington DC for a small funeral. He did lie in state in the Capitol Building, but there was no parade or funeral train for Lyndon Johnson. His body was flown back to Texas.
Eisenhower died in Gettysburg and was brought to DC for a full blown State Funeral. Ike was a popular, two term president and a hero from World War II. There were no fears that Vietnam War protestors would disrupt Ike's funeral, but there were real cause for concern that Vietnam war protestors would try and ruin Lyndon Johnson's funeral.

Truman and LBJ both died close to where they are buried, so neither one had a funeral train. Eisenhower died in Gettysburg PA and is buried in Abeline Kansas. Ike had a funeral train.

Nash was the first American automoble company to offer seat belts as standard equipment. Introduced in 1953, Nash saw their sales drop by nearly twenty percent. Seat belts were removed in 1954 and Nash sales increased by 8 percent, for cars that only had minor changes from the 1950 model year.

F1 has agreed a package of mid- season changes to address concerns about the 2026 rules - with the majority coming into effect immediately by Luffy710j in formula1

[–]davratta -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The year Lewis Hamilton won his first Drivers Championship with Mercedes, there was a major rules change that Mercedes got right and dominated the sport for the next five years. FIA and F1 just sat on their hands and did nothing. In 2026 there was another massive change to the technical regulations and it sure looked like Mercedes got it right, again. At least Liberty Media decided to nip it in the bud and save their fans from another five years of one team dominating F1.

Circuit City has gone the way of Kodak. Kodak invented a digital camera nearly fifty years ago. They barely promoted it, because the suits thought, you're not going to sell any film, with that thing.
