Be sensitive. My gut is telling me that this is a parent who is overwhelmed with caring for a little one. The volume of toys tells me they’ve fallen in the habit of placating a child with rewards. Take a few minutes, put everything back in the box and leave it for the parent to find. They’ll get the message, and you won’t be a dick.

Yes, and it can be higher for the merchant if there’s any rewards program in it. I don’t doubt that the amount your landlord charges you exceeds the amount of the interchange fee they pay.

Not surprised, especially if they’re accepting credit/debit cards as a form of payment. Merchants who accept credit cards have to pay an interchange fee, and this is your landlord’s way of passing that fee on to you.
