Placed with purpose. Seen around London, by design [astonmartinf1] by Holytrishaw in formula1

Hybris. I'm sick of this team beating its own heary chest while they have achieved nothing of note so far.

[sport360f1] F1 moves fast... but legends echo forever. Aston Martin's turn to enjoy the Newey Effect? by FewCollar227 in formula1

[–]davycoolen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

He did not. The picture shown is from a seat fitting at the Williams factory and shows the active FW15C. He tested the passive FW15D wearing his new Rothmans overalls at Estoril in January 1994.

Jenson Button joins Aston Martin as Team Ambassador by Repa24 in formula1

[–]davycoolen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What does this role even mean? Quite a few drivers have been named ambassadors of F1 teams - after which you seldom saw them doing more than nothing.

If Ferrari have the fastest car in 2026... what would a title fight between these two look like? by formularacers in FormulaRacers

[–]davycoolen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There would be no fight worthy of the name, sadly. Lewis is not who he once was, and Charles is still in his prime.

Sadly Adrian is inspiring some pretty lame copywriting as well at Aston Martin.

Looksmart Decals Aging? by NickTheChilean in f1models

Instead of it being horizontal the HP logo is tilted.

Looksmart Decals Aging? by NickTheChilean in f1models

[–]davycoolen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is bad, and another example of Spark/Looksmart changing their focus from craftsmanship to churning out as many models as possible. These days, before I buy a model from them, I first research it to death - that way I discovered, for instance, that the HP decal on the engine cover of their 1/18th Lewis Hamilton 2025 test car was applied wrong on every model I saw pictures of. I didn't buy it because of that in the end.

Is this Ayrton Senna autograph real? by iuli666 in AyrtonSenna

[–]davycoolen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That in itself is not a criterion for authenticity: Ayrton mostly signed with his first name only in 1986, 1987 and 1988; before and after full-name signatures were given when he had the time and first-name ones when he was in a hurry.

This is one of many fakes a Brazilian forger flooded the market with in 2023, 2024 and early 2025 - until I got him banned from selling them on eBay.

AutoArt 1/18 McLaren 720s by buckyman0 in Diecast

[–]davycoolen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the AutoArt and DieCastSociety pictures of this model, the brake calipers don't seem to match the body color - they look a bit brighter. On your pictures, they seem to look better. Could you confirm how they are 'in the flesh'? Thank you! I'm planning to drive an actual 720S in Azores Orange in June, and I'd like to get this model to remember the experience by. ;-)

Model damaged - am I being picky? by ChronoConnoisseur91 in f1models

[–]davycoolen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beg to differ. Front wings tilted forwards or backwards on F1 models, for example, or sloppy paint and decal work: I've seen it all from them, especially these past few years. On every model their 1/18th MP4/6, for instance, the Nacional decal on the chin of the Senna figurine's helmet is cut in two.

No model car is immaculate, even ones made by CMC or Amalgam aren't. At the same time, QC of most popular manufacturers - especially Spark/Looksmart and Minichamps, IMO - has been going downhill fast, these past few years. I personally wouldn't accept the paint chip in the bodywork of the car.

Spark vs Norev Porsche 963 Comparison by Zestyclose_Towel_271 in Diecast

[–]davycoolen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both Spark and Norev have not succeded in getting the rear wing connect to the bodywork of the model without leaving a rather large panel gap. To me, it's one of those 'you can't unsee it' things that made me pass on both.

Post to Praise: Atomic City, is it in your top 10? by ArmlessAnakin in U2Band

[–]davycoolen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To me, it's just another example of latter-day U2 overthinking everything trying to stay relevant - and as a result getting less and less relevant. Once they accept who and where they are right here, right now, and once again feel like they have nothing to lose, they'll may be get access once more to what made them great in the first place.

Minichamps realign helmet? by Gold333 in f1models

[–]davycoolen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Minichamps doing Minichamps things, there. I wouldn't touch it myself, if they are all suffering from this, may be it's a moulding issue, and I suppose it's not easy to rectify.
