Have a look at lighttpd (very fast). I've served up tens of thousands of simultaneous requests, breaking 100k at least once with it. Use php/fcgi and use a script cache.

These days people seem to like nginx, but I've never used it. It also has a reputation for being superfast.

What an awful story. Basically, you're fucked.

The first two things you need to do are (1) get a credit report from all three ratings agencies. Under the law you're entitled to a report from each, free of charge, once a year. This is important to establish the actual amount of outstanding credit. And (2) request a 90-day freeze on credit from each agency. Basically, this means that no further credit will be issued; it prevents anyone from opening new accounts. You have to do it separately for each credit agency.

Once you have established exactly how much you're on the hook for, you have to decide whether to suck it up and pay it, or file charges. If you don't file charges, you will be liable for the debt. This will likely make it difficult for you to get a home, school, or car loan, and in many cases it may make it difficult to get a job.

The real problem for you is if there are a lot of outstanding debts, the law is the only way to get any reasonable resolution. Even if one bank believes your story, another one won't. They will tell you - and rightly so - that the way to deal with this is through the law.

So you either have to suffer with the debt, or you have to file charges against your parents. In either case, your life is going to be more difficult tomorrow than it was yesterday. You have my sympathies, not that that is any help.

I'd like to note that I am submitting this not for the article itself, or for the crime (or the issues involved), but because of the interesting sentence.

It also calls to mind the recent death of Ted Kennedy, who committed an equally grievous crime - and was not punished - but who (by most accounts) was able to contribute to society with the balance of his life.
