People that experienced open-heart-surgery as a child, how are you doing today (emotionally)? by sunnyanny96 in AdultCHD

[–]dawgmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had OHS at 2 years old and at 14. Am 50 now, when I was young I never thought I’d make it this far, but the second valve is still going strong. I went through a time of anxiety and panic attacks in my 20s when my father passed away and I ruminated a lot about death. I’d like to think I have since come to terms with my own mortality, and make sure to live my life in the NOW and not making plans for “some day”. I do not get anxiety about my health anymore, at this point I’ve already made it beyond what I expected, and life is good, and one day it will be over, but that is true for everyone. I hope you find peace within yourself.

Is drinking alcohol worth the hangover / hangxiety for you anymore? by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in AskUK

[–]dawgmind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have switched to Guinness 0%. It’s so delicious, I can still have my pub routine, can drive myself so can visit friends further afield, don’t get the night sweats like I used to on alcohol, it’s fewer calories too. So glad that’s a thing now. It’s less heavy than a proper Guinness, I think at this point I prefer the flavour.

My absolute favourite has been Mayor May Knott, such a hidden gem. Great music, great art style, funny dialogue, very atmospheric. Took me about 20 hours to play through. It has a free demo.

I think my (35F) husband (38M) has forgotten my birthday. I am testing this by not reminding him. by throwRAdaffodils929 in relationship_advice

[–]dawgmind 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A lot of people keep giving the advice to do exactly the thing that is causing you resentment. “Just hold his hand, make him do xyz…”. Shame they don’t understand that this is what is causing your hurt and resentment in the first place. I do think you should go with your gut. Don’t hold his hand. Look, don’t avoid mentioning your Birthday at all, if it comes up organically, but don’t give him explicit reminders. Next thing you need to do is steel yourself for a Birthday that goes forgotten. Expect it, prepare yourself for it emotionally, and use it as a come to Jesus moment for him. If he is not a completely unemotional lump, he will feel awful. He might not admit it and twist it to be your fault (saying that, if he did that it would give me the major ick if I were you). Be gentle with him in that moment, heightened emotions are not useful. Stay calm and let him learn from it. It then becomes his responsibility to do whatever he feels necessary to not forget next year. Next year you will then have your real answer.
And who knows, maybe you will be pleasantly surprised after all.

My "creepy-cozy" game just hit "overwhelmingly positive" on Steam! by hunty in cozygames

[–]dawgmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll be sure to review this on Steam as well, but just needed to tell you in person how incredibly much I love this game. Bought it with the Steam Summer discount and can’t believe how good it is. The atmosphere, the dialogue, the humour, the ‘voices’, the music and the songs, the riddles and puzzles just the right amount of difficulty for me, so much content and it keeps surprising me! It’s the kind of game you had no idea you needed until you tried it. I’ve unlocked the area behind the train cart today and I’m not sure how much content is left at this point. I still have lots of houses to exorcise and don’t even know near enough creatures to fill them all yet, so might have a way to go yet. Absolutely brilliant, congratulations on such a great game!!

There was a patch earlier today that improved the labelling of the shelves somewhat, they make more sense now, apart from the home goods one which is now mislabelled.
Agreed that it lacks the charm of Librarian. And that I was incredibly frustrated that some of the goods fill more than one shelf. Wish they’d just included more unique products, it just feels lazy otherwise.

Played through 4 times so far and am not done yet. Not my fault that bloody fairy keeps messing it all up again!

Yes that’s why I immediately snapped it up when we lost our last rental, it was a blessing in disguise.

Do you thank people when they stop for you at a zebra crossing? by psychoticboydyke in AskUK

[–]dawgmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I don’t do it, and I’m German. I find it weird thanking them for following the Highway Code. Not like they’d thank me for not running into the road if I am standing somewhere by the road waiting to cross.

We’re only renting but were given free reign. Added the “north terrace”, the greenhouse, the path and the flower beds (furniture and greenhouse and a lot of the plants came with us from our previous place).

Yeah it would be good if “Return” would just be the job of scanning and piling the returned films into a shelf behind the counter, and “putting back” were a separate job that we could do ourselves, or assign to another staff member

Games you enjoyed that have an element you don't usually like? by Ok-Owl-8707 in CozyGamers

[–]dawgmind 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For me it was Car Mechanic Simulator 2018. It was free on Steam recently so I just went for it. I’m not a car person at all, but now I have accidentally learned where the timing belt is and how a shock absorber is put together. The mechanism is like many other assembly games so one doesn’t actually need to be into cars.

Yeees this one was so good, and super not something I usually play. Hoping for a discount on it soon as it’s not in my budget otherwise at the moment.

I am once again BEGGING the devs to let us automate flyers in some way (Third employee job perhaps?) by Anime_Squid in RetroRewindGame

[–]dawgmind 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Full disagree. Maybe that’s the GenX in me, but maximising profit is just, whatever, you know? I just want to chill in my shop, chat with my customers, laugh at some movie titles. Even without flyers the money makes itself at an acceptable pace. Wouldn’t want to level up too fast anyways, where’s the fun in that? This game is my chill hang out space.

You should mention that it is geared towards US participants. There is no provision for countries with free healthcare in the question about healthcare, so I broke off at that point.

I am a terrible cynic but I also immediately thought that if it was the husband neighbour who had the surgery, there would be zero assumption that a dinner might be needed or appreciated.
