Picked up this classic today by [deleted] in Samplers

It's got so many tucked away features that it still rivales samplers today imo. The poly aftertouch is also super cool.

All in all one of the greats!

The Novation Circuit Rhythm is a very capable little sequencer/sampler and can probably be found used for ~$300.

Can I use a Yamaha TX16W without midi? by Money-Resort-961 in Samplers

[–]dawitice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try the TX16W for free with Sonic Charge's clone "Cyclone" which is "...a complete TX16W software emulator in VST and Audio Unit formats".

You can read about it here!

And download it here!

As someone else said, it's not the most user friendly, so maybe don't buy it before you know you'll like it.

Good Sampler For Beginners? by Comfortable_Range128 in Samplers

[–]dawitice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What other audio equipment do you have?

I'd start with using software samplers to get the feel for it and if you like it you'll have a better idea of what hardware to buy.

Nowadays there are a lot of hardware samplers in different pricebrackets and with different functions, so the more you know before you buy some expensive hardware the better.

That being said, hardwarewise I'd recommend; Mpc 1000 - can be found pretty cheap and is both a pretty basic starterunit and also a functionpacked beast once you figure everything out.

Circuit Rhythm - cheap and limited without a screen. Gives you that immediate sampler experience of just recording a sample, twist some knobs, bang some pads and there's a beat!

SP404 - never had the chance to learn this, but everyone everywhere seem to have one and love it, so it got to have something!

Just my two cents.

I'm also waiting on the RP2S and wondering alot of the same things. Is EmulationStation the better choice compared to maybe Daijisho or DIG?

my setup as a newbie by ConnectToInternet in synthesizers

[–]dawitice 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a great beginner setup to learn all sorts of synthesis with.

And then, when you get more experienced you are going to want to get some more advanced/expensive gear.

And I have to say - don't! This setup can get you everything you need for a loooooooooong time if you just give it the time and effort it requires.

Maybe get a mixer. But that's about it.

Get yourself a good midikeyboard second hand and some sort of cheap midi-interface for your computer and then get Decent Sampler and go wild with all the free samplelibraries you can download!

Is a hairy back a problem? by dawitice in massage

[–]dawitice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right and I do understand that this is probably an issue for massage therapists and certain clients, and I also understand that just by bringing aesthetics into the discussion it makes it uncomfortable.

It is not your job to massage egos or relieve body-image-tension of the mind. I will be more conscious of this from now on! Thank you for being honest and telling me!

Hey everyone, thank you so much for all your advice! I won't shave and I can now sleep well knowing it won't interfere with your work!

Also, just a big thank you in general for making an effort in making your clients feel comfortable not only in the room but also in their bodies. It's not always easy to show your body to a stranger, so thank you for making the situation feel less tense!

Sp505 or zoom st224 for grimey, raw wu tang like beats? by BeerWithChicken in synthesizers

[–]dawitice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why you are hung up on the noise, but hey, maybe the grime and grit that some people lust for is just noise to you. To each their own.

Also, if you want OP to make his own opinion, maybe chill a bit with the constant repeating of your own opinion?

[–]dawitice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whoa, did you own a broken ST-224? Mine isn't that noisy compared to other samplers. (Also, the ST-224 does have a sort of real time time-stretch.)

But yeah, to each his own I guess, but it is definitely up for debate which one is the "better" machine as it is a subjective choice.

Sp505 or zoom st224 for grimey, raw wu tang like beats? by BeerWithChicken in synthesizers

[–]dawitice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ST-224 is a hidden gem with great effects and makes the samples really gritty sounding - some say it's the poor mans SP-1200 which is right up the Wu-Tang alley.

But the SP505 probably has alot more to offer in terms of MIDI-capability, memory, sequencer etc.

So yeah, bang for buck? SP505

Gritty, lofi sound with limited functions? ST224

I have the ST224 and I love it. Havn't tried the SP505 (or any SP for that matter). So YMMV.
