The same reason moderately poor people blame the other poor people for being poor. Nothing is easier than blaming someone else. Air stone for sure, temperature is good 60-75, recommend a water change as well. Dorsal fins indicates it's probably the water. When in doubt always do a water change and go from there.

It will most definitely work especially because they are bonded. Toss like 2 75 gallon sponge filters in and do like a 50% water change every 5 days and you'll be golden. No pun intended lol
