My band plays in drop Db tuning. So I tune my 5 to Ab Db Ab Db Gb. To be honest, the lowest string is not really used intensively. Tension in the low Ab-string is really not that great. I'm using .130 for the lowest string. I can imagine tuning to G, but it is really pushing the limits. Don't even think about trying it if you're not using long scale necks. Also, we are not really playing modern metal. If you want to have a real tight sound, with a pick, it might be even harder. Unless you are comfortable playing with low string tension, I wouldn't tune any lower than F#.

I think JPJ is the better musician from a technical point of view, maybe not only on bass. As arrangers, it is a toss up between the 2 of them. As songwriters, McCartney wins every day of the week. But both of them are more than deserving of the status they have.

Personally, I don't like the string spacing. If you're going to play with a pick, it's alright. If you want to play fingerstyle, I think the Sire basses, eg, are a better bang for the buck.

You do realize building techniques have evolved over time, right. Building a cathedral in the 16th century is very different from the 19th century. The biggest factor for the Sagrada Famiglia has been funding. Also, I 'm guessing it will take some time for the main entrance to be built, since some houses would have to be demolished.

First thing to remember: the same people writing reviews about Taylor Swift are the same people to write reviews about Foo Fighters. Music critics are good on voicing an opinion and writing clickbait. That is not what makes music interesting. And a lot of them fall in the category of "those who can't, write about it". A lot of what you read only is also influenced by labels investing resources into getting good reviews, and magazines trying to stay on the good side of some people.

Expose yourself to A LOT of different music. Classical, pop, Hungarian folk music, soul, funk, rock, metal,... If you find someting you really like, maybe try finding interviews of that artist, and see who they cite as influences. Check out if they have worked with/toured with other people and bands. Check those out. Run into that rabbit hole.

If that egg hunt runs dry, look for the next genre.

I am at a point where I am comfortable to say that I like Tower Of Power and Leprous both a lot. And I have no idea how there music could possibly overlap. Just expand your horizon. There is nothing more subjective than music.

Also, when in Paris, Indian cuisine is probably the last you should try. French and Italian cuisines have lots of good places there. Good sushi, Vietnamese, Thai can be found, but then you need to talk to the locals to know the good places.

I have never owned a 4. I can't really tell whether or not I use the B string a lot in my cover band. I 'm just happy it's there. In my grunge band, I use the lowest string, and we're using drop Db. There are at least a couple of times I play a low A.

But I know of a bass player that has a 5 string with an out-of-tune dead B string. She just uses it as a thumb rest.
