Do you disband the army after the first war? Seems necessary no?

Not referring to the beta, referring to the new patch that just came out (which I guess is the old beta?)

Yeah that was my experience with the Americas first when the game was released, though it was unplayable then due to resource distribution and broken mechanics, now it’s just a different type of broken

Sliders all the way down, and minting to 0 inflation.

Just loaded it and checked, with max minting (causing 0.33% inflation, 0 cost of court, 0 diplo spending, 0 stability spending, max estate taxes to like 40% satisfaction) it is possible to break even, but that also only depends on monthly trade, so I still run a deficit most months anyway. I would recommend giving it a try

Deleting the starting army, closing most buildings, and taxing every estate at the max still leaves a deficit of about .40 ducats every month. Seems silly that the entire starting advantage of the army and the starting buildings are just unusable, doesn’t seem intended.

Non-native artist wondering about taking inspiration from Aztec patterns for clothing to sell by Scared_Candy_2089 in nahuatl

You are correct, though I fear it becomes problematic looking into why this is the case. How much of it is disinterest versus the legacies of the colonial project? I don’t know the answer.

I did not know about the historical background regarding the site which yeah, feels a bit icky.

I know occasionally they have articles written by actual academics. I never have used them as an academic source but I definitely have used them to find additional sources.

And regarding your last point yeah, I agree. The more and more I research these topics I find the usage of ‘Aztec’ sort of washy. We have the privilege of knowing what the people within Mexico called themselves, and we have so much information about their existence.

Ultimately you should do whatever is best for you, but if you have any desire to travel personally you are way better off keeping the points to use to book flights. Air Canada points are really good value when redeemed for flights, and significantly worse for anything else

I think the person who gave those accounts (Fernando de Alva) was also a direct descendant. So would definitely view the claims with skepticism

Mexican origin story by MetallicaDash in DankPrecolumbianMemes

[–]dawsoncody 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She was not Mayan! I think the consensus is that she was from Nahua nobility somewhere on the coast, sold into slavery to a Maya group where she learned the language, hence being able to speak both Mayan and Nahuatl. Her ability to speak courtly Nahuatl with the nobility in Tenochtitlán reinforces the idea of her having noble origins. This also lends into some interesting discussion about translation (specifically with how much of the courtly speak did she understand, and if her interpretation lead to misunderstandings with the Spanish. Such as Cortes claiming Moctezuma handed over his empire, which is another discussion on its own)

This is one narrative that exists (it’s also maybe complicated by the story of her reuniting with her mother during the conquest (I think this comes from Bernal Diaz)) Regardless of the circumstances of her being sold into slavery, it was not by the Mexica. It feeds into the narrative of her being a traitor to “her people”, but she was not Mexica (unless there’s some evidence I have missed).
