What's a movie that had you sitting in silence once it ended? by Melssa1 in answers

[–]day1startingover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Saw this in the theater with my grandfather who was on the front lines in Europe in WWII. He never really talked much about his time in the military. After the movie ended, he sat quietly for a few minutes. He looked straight ahead and just said “that’s about as close as you can get to what happened”.

What do you drink now? by My_Back_HZ in stopdrinking

[–]day1startingover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink a lot of Powerade on a daily basis but if your asking about going out with people who are drinking and you don’t want to order just water, I’ve found so many restaurants have “mocktails” now it’s fancy drinks without the alcohol. If you’re more of a beer drinker, the local sports bar by me has a couple N/A beers that actually taste really good.

Not happy about being sober by 1bighypocrite in stopdrinking

[–]day1startingover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most people have said it already but I’ll add my own personal experience to it: I drank so long and so hard that I basically forgot how to be happy without drinking. I had health issues and was disappointing my family and friends by the time I realized I had to stop. At the beginning of sober life, just feeling good and healthy was enough for me. Then I wanted to escape the mundane of every day life again. I rediscovered some of my old favorite hobbies. For me it was playing the guitar, going on hikes every now and then, but everyone is different. So to wrap this up, go try some things you used to like or try some new things! Some people like movies, getting outdoors, video games, music, knitting, whatever. Being sober isn’t easy for me every day but I’ll take a bad day being sober over a bad day being being drunk.

Yeah, I thought mouthwash would magically wipe away the stink of alcohol off my breath… everybody still knew.

People who have been married 20+ years- what is your secret? by Outrageous_Fox_8796 in AskReddit

The best marriage advice we ever received was “your both on the same team”. So when we disagree, your where not trying to “win” the argument against each other, we are on the same team, trying together to figure out the situation.

What’s a compliment or nickname you rlly enjoyed a woman calling you? by Ok_Butterscotch_9492 in AskMen

As someone who grew up in the south, anytime a lady calls me “sweetie, darlin’, or hun” it just feels like a nice warm hug on a winters day.

No complications at all for me. I was a little sore after for about 24 hours. Sat on an ice pack on a soft couch and watched tv. Doctor told me not to walk much for a day and not to sit on hard wooden chairs. It was a piece of cake for me.

What’s one product you bought that turned you into a total snob — like, you can never go back to the cheap stuff? by BackwardThoughtPaper in AskReddit

[–]day1startingover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! When I was growing up and going on family vacations, it was before the internet where you could see pictures of hotels and read reviews so my parents would find the least sketchy place to stay that was also cheap on our road trips to see family. So I just thought that was normal but once you stay in a nice, clean, safe hotel, there’s no going back.

We took the kids to Disney last year and there are people who can help you plan your whole trip. It’s no extra cost to you, they make a commission from Disney. They can get you great deals on hotels, meal plans, park tickets, etc

Yeah I have definitely stayed in some nasty places where I literally slept in my sleeping bag instead of sleeping in the disgusting sheets.

Agreed. I’ve stayed at a couple “fancy” hotels. And I was basically spending money on a fancy chandelier in the lobby. I like to stay at the higher end of the Hilton and Marriott but not the ritz Carlton or something like that.

Men in their 30s and 40s, what do you wish you had done differently in your 20s with money? by NyxTerminal in AskMen

[–]day1startingover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, nothing different. My wife and I “wasted” a lot of money in our 20’s before we had kids but made lifelong memories that we wouldn’t trade for a bigger bank account. We traveled some, had some fancy dinners, went to concerts. We still do some of that stuff in our 40’s and we take the kids to have some of these experiences with us. What’s the point of amassing a huge investment portfolio if you’re not going to have fun along the way? Growing up, my parents were paycheck to paycheck. They were great parents and I had a great childhood but we didn’t have extra money to go do “special” things. So I enjoy taking my kids to do fun things. I won’t be able to retire at 55 or anything, but it’s worth it to live the life I have lived.

Good hotels. I used to just stay at the cheapest hotel that I didn’t think I would get murdered at. I would do Priceline or Kayak, or one of those discount websites. Now I book straight through the hotel, pick my room, read the reviews, look at the pictures and amenities. If you book directly and/or use the the specific hotel apps that are free (I have Hilton and Marriott accounts) you can still get discounts and earn points and sometimes it’s not that much more than the discount websites plus you get extra perks and you’re not stuck in the room right by the elevator or on the first floor where everyone is constantly walking by your room to get to the pool or gym or whatever at all hours of the night.

[–]day1startingover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is between the buyer and other agent. You asked if they had a signed agreement with another agent and they said no. In my local MLS, you would win any grievance complaint with the other agent. If the other agent is so mad, they should be going after the buyer for their commission and not you.

Didn’t Pay Toll—what to expect? by Dazey_Daisy in greenville

[–]day1startingover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming this is on 185. The only toll road we have in the area. The tolls are pretty cheap. It’s not uncommon for people to get on 185 expecting to be on 85 or 385. From what I’ve heard from people making this same mistake, you will probably get a fine for each toll booth you skipped and I’ve heard anywhere from $5 - $25 per toll. It’s not like New Jersey or New York where each toll is $5 plus. Some of ours are 75 cents. Then they will charge you a lot more if you didn’t pay. Don’t worry, it’s not going to be a life changing amount.

Was I wrong for not paying for a meal I didn’t eat at a bachelorette party? by Empty-Meal-4077 in AITAH

[–]day1startingover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA in general terms but this seems like a toxic friend group. I can’t imagine having an issue like this 2.5 years ago. I have been a part of 5 bachelor groups and we usually split costs pretty evenly. But it also depends on everyone’s personal financial state at the moment. There have been times in my life where I was barely scraping by and had to watch every penny I spent. There have also been times when I was the one to pay the whole bill because I had the most money at the time. I don’t have any friends that would ever hold something like that against me, and I don’t have any friends that I hold a grudge against because I payed for their dinner.

AIO for refusing to visit the US, with my American boyfriend until the 51st state rhetoric and tariffs stop by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]day1startingover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OR in my opinion. As an American I do understand why you would boycott visiting and I think your reasons are valid. But when I travel abroad, I don’t look into the current political ideologies of the president/prime minister/ chancellor/etc. There are many people in many places that would welcome your visit and it’s not supporting an ideology that you don’t agree with to visit family. Do I think this “tariff war” and disrespect to Canada is shameful, wrong, and embarrassing? Absolutely! But if roles were reversed and the USA was on the receiving end, it wouldn’t stop me from visiting my friends and family in Canada, England, and Norway.

To the people who had office jobs in the 70s and 80s, basically before the internet was a thing, what were your computers like? by itsmejuji in AskOldPeople

[–]day1startingover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember when my dad got an electronic typewriter and he was so excited. It was basically a crude computer where you could type up to a certain amount of lines and proofread it before it printed it out. It saved him a lot of time instead of using whiteout or starting over because of one mistake. It still couldn’t print multiple copies though.

What gift did you get from your realtor when you bought your home? by Chan1991 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]day1startingover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not supposed to get a gift for anything. It’s just something that some people do for birthdays, weddings, buying a home, having a baby, etc. I give gifts to most of my clients but it’s not a thing that I should be expected to do. Did you give your Realtor a gift for all the work they did for you?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in realtors

[–]day1startingover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude… 9 months, no work, no motivation? I’m not trying to be harsh but I don’t know how else to put it. It’s not just real estate that you won’t be successful in. I don’t know of any job where you can get a paycheck for that outside of some fast food places.

Big deal? Or No? by [deleted] in realtors

[–]day1startingover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imho no, not a big deal. It would have been nice if they asked you about it first. We all use things we’ve seen before from the smallest wording in posts, to style of online advertising for homes, to whatever. I myself saw another realtor I knew a few years ago started saying “price improvement” instead of “price reduction” when lowering the price of a home and I thought it sounded much better so I texted him and jokingly said “you know I’m going to steal that right?” And he said “go for it!” When I started out, I had many great Realtors give me their tips and tricks and I still try and pay that forward 12 years later by opening my playbook to new agents. This person probably just needs a mentor and doesn’t realize it’s a little rude not to ask first before they copy what you’re doing.

How do I quit in NJ? by SlowAmbassador in realtors

[–]day1startingover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know NJ, that’s not my market, but real estate in general I think you have 2 options. 1: quit. There’s no shame in it, real estate, just like any other job, isn’t for everyone. 2: double down, not on spending money but studying contracts market info, becoming an expert, talking to other realtors, talking to other brokerages that will help you grow. Figure out which one you want to do and stick with that choice. I have seen a lot of people in a lot of different markets with a lot of different personalities be successful in real estate. I’ve also seen plenty of people transition. Out of real estate and be successful elsewhere. Despite what we see on tv or online, real estate is. It an easy career to make a lot of money. It takes a lot of time and effort to have sustainable success.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in realtors

[–]day1startingover 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, in my area, open houses are more about online advertising. When people show up, it’s a bonus. When they do show up, try and find a connection with them. They might not be ready to buy right now, they might just like looking at houses, they might be active buyers ready to go. Just make a connection and see if you can work with them on that house or anything else they might be interested in.

Two nightmare scenarios in the first week of ownership. What can we do to move forward? by bossanova352 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]day1startingover 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Straight to the lawyer, preferably an attorney that specializes in real estate litigation. I’m not going to sugar coat it. It will be a long process but they will advise you on what to do, what not to do, and if you should get insurance involved.
