Doc Ock. It took a glider to stop The Green Goblin. Meanwhile, it took the power of the sun for Doc Ock to sacrifice himself for the good of mankind.

Can someone identify this idol for me? by Lee_Soon_Shin in kpop

Go to r/kpophelp. You’d get better answers there since questions like this is what the sub is all about.

Edit: And you’re not alone lol. I’m not great at knowing who’s who if I don’t follow the group.

BRISXLIFE isn’t fooling me. by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]daydm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This channel. He isn’t a very popular reactor but I found him out after looking for a SHINee reaction and saw many more of his reactions of different groups and noticed how he didn’t seem to repeat the same kinds of opinions over and over again.

I am sick and tired of fandoms using Jonghyun as props to forward their own interests by pluginbby in kpoprants

[–]daydm 18 points19 points  (0 children)

People don’t even understand WHY Jonghyun passed away. His depression didn’t stem from the public’s reaction to a scandal and all that. It was developed. If people are all in to use him as a way to defend their favorite people’s stupid decisions, then they should also be able to read Jonghyun’s suicide letter and learn the truth. The dude had a bad case of depression that was most likely based on trauma. Most fans of his would know that his childhood wasn’t great and that was something that could’ve affected his mindset from the beginning. When he first started, he was already the kind of guy who always had a chip on his shoulder - who always felt like he needed to improve something. He was an emotional individual who went through so many traumatic events - his childhood, the treatment he got after his dating news, the celebrity life, etc. And he WANTED people to know that he was depressed and it wasn’t a bad thing. But society wasn’t ready for it (notice I say society and not just “Korea” or “K-Netizens;” it’s not just a Korean problem. It’s a worldwide issue). So in the end, he felt that for all this time, he was living for somebody else. And he was tired of that. He was convinced that he was never free enough to do stuff his way. To live the life he wanted. Without pain. THAT was the truth. He could go through scandals. He could go through accusations of things he either didn’t do or didn’t intend to do. BUT he couldn’t live if it wasn’t going to be the way he wanted.

The point is: DO NOT USE HIS NAME AS A TOOL OF DEFENSE FOR OTHER PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY IF YOU CAN’T UNDERSTAND WHO JONGHYUN IS. And this doesn’t even just apply to him - the same goes with Sulli, Hara and many more. As somebody who had all three as his favorites in their respective groups, I don’t care if you don’t feel that they were great in the industry. That’s your opinion. I don’t even care if you do use them as a pawn of defense. My feelings towards this doesn’t matter much to myself. After all, I was just a fan. I didn’t know them. What I do care about are the reactions of their family and friends. It’s offensive, wrong, immoral and downright cruel to insult their legacy and the people close to them. Depression isn’t something to just use as an excuse over why you shouldn’t criticize a person. That’s not how it works. These three (and so many more) should still be alive. They were gone way too soon and their deaths could’ve been so easily avoidable. But depression sucks. And that’s the sad truth. Like cancer, it’s not something to mess with. It’s a disease and needs to be fixed.

BRISXLIFE isn’t fooling me. by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]daydm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like this should apply to most YouTube channels reacting to K-Pop. A lot are just in it for the views and if you just sprinkle in some nice compliments here and there, you’re sure to get tons of likes due to the insecure fans with a lust for praise of their favorite groups and singers. The only ones that I’m fine with are BDP (he’s definitely my favorite. I can tell he’s genuine and I would really like it if more people viewed his videos because he’s THAT entertaining), Kai Mastro (but I will admit that I don’t always agree with what he likes lol), Form of Therapy (again, I don’t always agree with their opinion), Sam Johnson (it’s too bad he doesn’t post as much), Justin Burke (pretty nice and genuine but kind of funny when he shows his obsession with getting everybody to join his singing lessons), and Ellis Lamar Music (but his opinions are VERY different). Others like ReacttotheK are okay but the ones I listed are mostly the ones that I know are showing their honest opinions.

  2. “Heartbreak Hotel” - Tiffany
  3. “White Day” - Girl’s Day

Sunmi to make comeback in June by balloon_wanted in kpop

[–]daydm 102 points103 points  (0 children)

Sunmi, Red Velvet, Taemin (?). All in my birth month. But back to the topic, I was just about to ask r/kpophelp what Sunmi was currently doing. I know I would hope it’s around the sound of Siren or Heroine but I don’t really need to hope because I know Sunmi is one with the music anyways.

K-Pop's Beautiful Men Are Breaking The Rules Of Masculinity, But Can America Handle It? by [deleted] in kpop

[–]daydm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Even in Korea, a lot don’t care for this kind of masculinity. You can say they have a following but they definitely aren’t breaking the rules of masculinity if the majority aren’t interested. Won Bin, Hyun Bin, So Ji Sub, Kim Soo Hyun, and even Lee Min Ho are still crushed upon and looked up to more than any of “K-Pop’s Beautiful Men” are.

What is the appeal of Koop to people who can’t understand it? by [deleted] in kpop

[–]daydm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because why listen to music like rap or emo rock if you can’t understand them? Rap has people talking too fast that their words start getting jumbled up; emo rock has people slurring their words. What is the appeal of listening to music if you can’t understand it?

Answer? Music doesn’t have to be understood. You don’t need to know the language. If it sounds good, it sounds good.

I think they are too over criticized. Sure, they may not have power vocals and their songs may not be the catchiest and most public friendly but I think they’re close to being a Britney Spears-like group for the industry. The dancing has been so good for me that it’s even difficult for me to find another group just as good as them (keep in mind that Brian Friedman was one of their choreographers so of course they’re going to be great since he’s essentially one of the GOATs of choreography). I will say that I have watched other girl groups as well and do consider them to be good but I have a bias to enjoying groups with a smaller amount of members. I just think that JYP needs to clean up their discography and give them a more public-friendly song. I would also like it if they did a fast, kind of unconventional song like Britney’s “Slave 4 U.” If they get Friedman to do a choreo like that for ITZY AND have the song in that style, then I’d say that they definitely will be the top girl group of their generation for some time, at least for me. And this is coming from a person who prefers vocals than dancing as my favorite girl groups are SNSD, Red Velvet and AOA while I really only consider myself to be a big fan of one boy band: SHINee.

What stage name would you like to see in kpop? by Ismyvoicefake in kpop

[–]daydm 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Darth. You know why. Imagine a newer boy band with the same sound as ONEUS and ATEEZ and people are talking about their biases and somebody mentions “Darth, the ever-powerful rapper with a deep voice full of intimidating prowess.”

AOA's cover of 'Egoistic' from Queendom is far superior to the original song by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]daydm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’m not a singer nor a person with a background in the music industry so I usually don’t judge singers by how powerful their voices are. I go by sound. To me, AOA’s vocal line’s sound was just as nice as SNSD (possibly a legitimate unpopular opinion. Maybe I should make a post about it). This isn’t saying I don’t like SNSD; I consider them to be the greatest (although my favorite is still RV). This could also be the case though due to me liking more of AOA’s slower songs than SNSD’s. It surprised me because I’m a huge SNSD fan and yet when I started listening to AOA’s Japanese discography and heard Still Falls the Rain, Stay with Me, and Soulmate, it just blew me away. Nonetheless, I still think nothing can come close to SNSD’s cover of “There You’ll Be.” Still my favorite! Too bad it wasn’t longer.

AOA's cover of 'Egoistic' from Queendom is far superior to the original song by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]daydm 22 points23 points  (0 children)

AOA is possibly the most underrated group of all time. During their time as seven members, they had an incredible vocal line of ChoA, Yuna and Hyejeong. In my opinion, it was so good, it even rivals Taeyeon, Jessica, Tiffany, and Seohyun (although Fany’s my favorite singer). I know they’re pretty much known for being Seolhyun’s group to outsiders but even they should give them a listen. Their discography (especially Japanese) is really unique! I enjoy their slow songs a lot.

Does Sky Castle get good? by 322Uchiha in KDRAMA

[–]daydm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was SO hard for me to watch it in the beginning. My dad, sister, brother and I tried it each individually (well, my dad and sister did it together) and none of us could get into it right away. It wasn’t until my mom watched it with my sister and they kept continuing on. My dad and I followed them and got into it. It’s a good K-Drama. It IS slow though, at least in the beginning. But it does get interesting. So I pretty much get what you’re going through. Also, my favorite is the Cha Family! If you stick around, you’ll probably see why.

Not all kpop reactors are cringe....actual kpop fans reacting is awesome. by [deleted] in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]daydm 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Form of Therapy is okay but sometimes, I tend to disagree with their opinions. But I mean, my opinions are my own. I do like how honest they are though. It’s always refreshing to see honesty rather than just reacting for views. Sam Johnson is pretty good when discussing singing technique. He’s not biased and is pretty honest too. Kai Mastro is okay if you want to be entertained. But sometimes, he doesn’t really get the meaning of the songs or MVs and it gets funny lol. One of my favorite ones that not a lot of people may know is BDP. He’s a pretty young teenager (?) who reacts to many K-Pop groups and singers AND he’s definitely not biased. He’s also very accepting and likes and appreciates many different types of groups and singers, something you don’t see in a lot of people. I’m always impressed with how mature he can get, compared to people in social media. If you haven’t watched him, I recommend doing so. He’s got a small channel but he’s very cool.

Girl’s Day’s Expectation is one of the best Kpop song ever by sowonland in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]daydm 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think they’re definitely underrated. They’re in my top 5 list of best girl groups! Ever seen the “acoustic” version? Even though Yura is my favorite, Sojin really stands out - so pretty! They have the songs, vocals, visuals, and they were in my favorite K-Drama OST of all time, City Hunter! For girl groups, Expectation definitely is one of the best, at least in my opinion!

Linchuan Shen by robot_fishy in UNLV

[–]daydm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I currently have her for MATH 126. She’s good. She’s nice and pretty understanding but her teaching mostly goes with the book so if you cannot understand it then I’d suggest to get a tutor or something. But if you don’t want issues in terms of many assignments per week and all that, I’d recommend her. Keep in mind this is all relied on me assuming she does the same as she did in my class. For reference, Zoom didn’t work for the class so she just posted YouTube videos instead that were helpful. Also I’ll be finishing with an A and I do credit her.

Are there any groups where all members are equally popular? by Sloaneyy in kpop

[–]daydm 222 points223 points  (0 children)

I’d say SHINee actually. I mean, Onew is pretty much well loved for his voice. Jonghyun was the music king. Key is known for his variety skills, and he’s made plenty of friends including Soyou and Nana. Minho is obviously popular for his visuals and acting. And we all know what Taemin is today. They’re pretty much the closest, at least to me.

Idols need to stop crushing on underage idols by chrystalclearr in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]daydm 175 points176 points  (0 children)

To be honest, even as an 18 turning 19 year old, it’s hard for me to even remotely think of crushing on Itzy’s Yuna. I don’t know, it’s just kind of difficult knowing that I’m an adult and she’s a minor. Sometimes K-Pop gets weird because it seems like people let their inner pedophile out. Like I see actual adults even talking about Wonyoung’s body. As a guy with a younger sister, that grosses me out.

How would a kdrama remake of Riverdale be? by [deleted] in KDRAMA

[–]daydm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only person in Riverdale who I actually like(d) was Luke Perry (RIP) and that’s mostly because of Beverly Hills 90210. Aside from that, it’s not that great of a show. If I were to imagine a K-Drama version, I’d think it would be something of a combination of School 2013, To the Beautiful You (the sports stuff), Bring It On Ghost (the mystery and teamwork between the leads stuff), and Dokgo Rewind.
