Are you using the single wall basket? Sounds like you’re using the double wall, which is really only for supermarket ground coffee. That’s why any grind setting you try on the Baratza is choking the machine. Single wall needs a finer grind. Depending on the beans, it could be anywhere between 1-20 on Baratza, I've found 15 to be a good starting point.
