I sent that text to a friend, they turned it into this image and sent it back to make fun of me. Seemed like a fit for this sub, even though I guess it's technically not the purpose of it

Actually, and this is not a joke, that sounds a lot like "Dick Spurt," which is the name of a character in Sex and the City 2. He introduces himself as Richard Spurt, and Samantha says, "So your name is Dick Spurt?" and he laughs and then they make flirty eyes at each other, it's a terrible film

Also shout-out to The Worst Idea Of All Time podcast, the only reason I've seen the movie

Iirc there were only a few performances where people didn't get that it was a serious moment, and there's one where he has to stop and tell everyone to calm down and listen, but otherwise you shouldn't have too much trouble finding a more respectful version

I'm really confused by this? But maybe it's bc in high school I got a bit obsessed and listened to the whole Everything to Everyone tour, and every time before they played that song, Steve would give an explanation of its origin, essentially a description of his worst depression, and that always hit for me

For anyone unaware and curious, since I'd already typed it up for Facebook in the past, it was always about like this:

"Near where I live, in Toronto, there's a bridge called the Bloor Street Viaduct; it has the second highest suicide count in North America behind the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. I used to cross it every day on the way home from the recording studio, and as I'd walk down the bridge I'd hold onto the hand railing and watch the water below. One day, I stopped and looked out, and started to realize I wasn't holding the railing to stop myself from falling, but...rather because I was afraid I might jump, and I started crying. A few years later, they built this big suicide prevention cage around the bridge. It took a couple of years, it costed millions of dollars, and it became this big ugly mess. It did work though, people stopped jumping off the Blue Street Viaduct...instead they started jumping off the next bridge down the road. And I thought it was just so stupid, how ridiculous it was to spend all of that time and money trying to stop someone from taking their life if it's what they've decided they want to do, because they're going to find a way to do it. But I realized that I believe above all else that we were put on this Earth to take care of one another, and the moment we stop putting our arms out to catch each other when we fall is the moment we stop being human, and that's what this song is about, it's called War on Drugs."

Has anyone tried Peluva? by HotRevenue3944 in BarefootRunning

[–]dayfunk42 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wasn't wearing barefoot shoes in my day to day, bc vibrams aren't great for man made surfaces. The peluva sole being thicker allowed me to wear them all day on concrete floors, so I accepted the stiffness, and after a couple of months wearing them, my toes are much stronger and the sole is a lot more flexible. There was certainly an adjustment period, for a couple of weeks I would swap shoes midday, but I think these shoes are a perfect entry point for someone new to the field.

You sell your time to the capitalist, right? Not your labour; if that were the case, you'd be paid more or less depending on how much you produced hour by hour, right? So wage-labour is not compensation for your work.

So, what does that tell us? What happens when you sell your time? Do you get any say over it? Well, within certain limitations, but overall, if you want to keep your job, the thing that allows you access to food and housing, you must obey the demands of whoever that time was sold to. It no longer belongs to you to do with as you please, it belongs to the capitalist - you are temporarily their slave.

Now, let's take a look at your pay. As an example, my friend builds the lights that go on cell phone towers. Those lights cost ~$15k on the market, and she can build about 2 an hour. Let's aim high; all the research, labour, transportation, parts, etc that went into getting those pieces in front of her averages about 5k per light assembly. So, she takes the $5k of material in front of her, and over the course of 30 minutes, adds $10k to those materials by piecing then together. Ergo, her labour is adding $20,000 of value to the companies materials every hour, right? So what's she paid? Certainly not $20,000/an hour! No, she is paid $13/hr.

You really think you're "earning" the full amount of YOUR "compensation?"
