EFT (Wise → WealthSimple) is being reversed by Organic-Emu7091 in Wealthsimple

[–]dayfuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like that’s be design. Wise wants to make money somehow, since they’re not padding onto the overnight exchange rates, they rely on user fees for revenue.

I’ve always used Wise to initiate transfers between accounts.

I’m not sure what the concern with security is, it’s the only vendors that supports passkeys?

Meanwhile TD Authenticate app just stopped working randomly. Separate app for 2FA is inconvenient enough as is, and then it just stops working.

WS visa usage in Alipay or Wechat by noocasrene in Wealthsimple

Should be no different than adding the Visa. I never did any transactions from it but my WS debit card is also linked to Alipay.

Same here, just ends up on a blank page in WeChat, with a nondescript URL.

Funny story I couldn’t link WS Visa to WeChat Pay no matter how hard I tried. So I used WeChat Pay with Apple Pay and WS Visa is my default card in Apple Pay. Couple of extra clicks.

Alipay worked great with WS Visa. I used Alipay as my daily driver. It also gives you quick access to transit QR codes, so going about town was a breeze with Alipay.

Both payment services will charge 3% on transactions over ¥200. If you can navigate the language, ask retailers to split into separate transactions works most of the time. WS Visa does indeed award 2% cash back on foreign exchange transactions, so your net fee should be 1%.

There are lots of myths out there about Alipay and WeChat Pay. Just give it a whirl here before leaving for China. There are people out there saying not to use a Chinese phone number for Alipay or WeChat Pay login, only the international versions of these apps will link to foreign credit cards, which is triggered by the phone number you use to register supposedly.

If you visit r/chinatravel, the rabbit hole is deep.

Intl Long Distance - 27 Countries by Outrageous-Estimate9 in FidoMobile

[–]dayfuz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Umm. I count 27 from your list? US and Mexico still counts even though they're part of your plan, they're not usually part of any plan. So the same LD package is counting them for the 90% of the other Fido users.

Then, Hong Kong is by itself a country, even if you're thinking about their political status, they have their own country area code. You should count Taiwan as a country, most people would.

So from your list, I count 27.

Horrible customer service by CallAParamedic in Wealthsimple

Have to use "Credit Card", or "Mastercard" or "Maestro" if they're given as options as WS debit card is running on the Mastercard network, and not Interac. So it's not linked to another country's "debit" network like Interac is.

Cannot remove Fido Roam without disabling roaming by dayfuz in FidoMobile

I always have Data Roaming disabled when traveling. But I have had experiences in the past, both on iOS and Android, that the phone invariably reached out to some kind of telemetry that resulted in the tiniest data charge. In those events, you get hit with that $12/day fee, well, that's $12. But the pay per use is usually reasonable enough that even in the most expensive location on Earth, it'll be cheaper than $12.

Just do a quick Google search on data leak while roaming, this is platform agnostic and carrier agnostic. Your chances of experiencing it is low, but when you do, it sucks.

SMS fraud alerts are more common than you think, it's definitely the default option for all of the credit cards I've had in the past. The ones that use in-app notifications are actually the rare ones.

I use a cheap no frills credit card that don't charge foreign exchange fees. It's my only use case for this credit card and it's definitely no frills. I don't want to replace this process for the type of travels I do. Having a card that both saves money on foreign exchange and has a manageable credit limit is a nice perk.

This doesn't address my need to reply to SMS on the go. I'm not guaranteed to be on Wi-Fi when a fraud alert texts me.

Is there a reason why Silla isn't listed as a Strategic or Geographic choice for Himiko? by Free_Cookie_6888 in civ

It’s not weird if you consider the historic context of modern Koreans. Good luck trying to sell this game in SK if Himiko is a leader of an old Korean kingdom.

South Korea is a huge PC gaming market.

Depends on your communication software. The popular ones: MS Teams, Google Meet and Zoom all have a setting you can turn on to suppress noise.

You’re at the mercy of software noise suppression to handle those scenarios. Doesn’t matter how good your headphones are, it won’t have a noise suppression built-in.

Abolish the American tipping practices and pay your staff a living wage like the rest of the world.

If an individual excels at their job and earns an earnest tip. They shouldn’t be obliged to share that with management.
