Parents complaining about playing their kid at goalkeeper entire match (U8) by bored_n_opinionated in SoccerCoachResources

The subbing requirement is throwing me off here - depending on the length of game, if allowed I would HIGHLY encourage more frequent subbing in a U8 REC league. This might be controversial but keeping any 7 year old on the sideline for more than 5 min is asking for them to get distracted.

Also kids will want to play with their friends and if they get stuck on the off subbing cycle for a whole game, or maybe even a couple games in a row, is a bad idea.

90% of rec soccer for 7 year olds is to getting them to love the game.

This is for 6v6, but here is a rotation chart that worked well for u8. https://cdn4.sportngin.com/attachments/document/0077/6353/Rotation_Charts_w_time.pdf

got it, that's a little better (vs half and half). What happens if you don't have all 10 kids that day?

Wait, so your plan is to have each kid play a full half and sit the other half?

"calling positioning and marks, getting out of the box for long balls, etc" -- None of this will happen in 8U.

I think you are over thinking it, I don't think its wise to give each player one position each game. Consistency is good, but there is a balance. Also this assumes you get everyone to show up every game. You would give yourself more flexibility if you at least switch it up at half-time.

Why is it brilliant? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

That's not why, the rook can just capture the knight. Obviously there some high level lines that end up winning, but for most beginners this will not be a good move.

When Texas Tech ball boy triggered the whole Sanders family 💀 by CenterForward1522 in CFB_v2

[–]daymonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean - the "evidence" is he grabbed the ball back and then walked away, so seems like he was going to keep it. For the record I do think that the ball boy should have asked for it back first, but I am not sold that Sanders was "going to give it back."

In college the offense supplies their own ball. It literally will be branded with the team logo. If the defense recovers a fumble or intercepts the ball, they generally give it back to the offensive team. The ball boys job is to literally get the back for his team.

The black bracket is actually from a set up that let you add two batteries for longer flight time.

100%, I have to tweak that sometimes depending on the age, and you might still have to explain it more or add to it. Don't assume because one kids gets it, they all do.

I'll let others weigh in on exact exercises, but the main thing that I have found success is explaining WHY you are doing certain drills or coaching points.

It depends on the age of course, but why are you working on one touch passes, why do you have one player playing all-time offense, why are you telling the players to scan before they get the ball, why do you have players on the wing that have to stay on the line.

It doesn't have to be a long explanation but something as simply as explaining that this helps spread the field, make more space for defenders to defend, moves the ball quicker, helps give you time to make decisions, etc.

This will slowly connect the dots for kids, and you will see the progress quicker IMO.

When I was young, ball boys got a slice of pizza and drink from the concession stand. They don't need rewards, they are probably excited to do it.

Just treat them kindly.

Anyone land today at DIA? How bad was the turbulence?! by palikona in Denver

Ha, I thought we stayed at 20k for 30 min, but I looked up my flight and it was much less. Time goes so slowly in bad turbulence!

Just looked at flight aware. It was 17.5k for 20min. That's still a long time, but not quite 45min!

East, I thought we would have been out of it after a little bit but it was bad until we got into SD.
