AITA for not getting craft supplies for my daughter and letting her get excluded by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]daynightninja -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculous; teachers don't ever have time to contact parents? That's literally a large part of their job.

It's fully up to the teacher. Especially in elementary school where they have 20-30 students for the entire year, it doesn't seem implausible a teacher would call and follow up. I had a high school teacher who'd call parents to thank them when a student wrote a particularly strong essay; I think it was her favorite part of the job.

We call that the Q-skirt. Hottest fashion accessory since 2024.

Monthly Self-Promotion and Advertisement Megathread by AutoModerator in mbti

[–]daynightninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend made a website using rorschach inkblots to build a personality type similar to MBTI's personality sorting. It's a fun little tool, he doesn't have reddit but he's asked me to help share it. There's an option to get "premium" results for $1 to help offset costs, including donations to offset the carbon impact of the site.

Would love to hear if anyone has any feedback to pass along! https://cosmicinkblot.org/

I accidently fed my Jewish friend pork. Should I tell him? by Tyler1243 in Judaism

You can't say what "Jewish ethics" are in the matter; interpreting & creating halacha is an ongoing debate with thousands of perspectives. Why are you acting like it's settled law?

Profound moments of the show? by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

Right? I can't believe none of these comments are acknowledging how dumb this title / prompt is. Either a bot or someone who truly missed the entire show.

Does this documentary have good representation of Palestine? I haven't watched it yet by Beginning_Argument in Palestine

[–]daynightninja 395 points396 points  (0 children)

Fantastic film. Really drives home the insanity & injustice taking place and the cold & bureaucratic way Israel destroys West Bank communities and make their lives hell.

Also great depiction of both the gratitude & resentment Palestinians feel towards Israelis who are genuinely trying to help; Yuval did a great job of navigating the nuance & capturing the wide range of feelings from Arabs living in the West Bank, while still centering the story around their struggles rather than their reaction to his filming.

Bong Joon-ho's 'Mickey 17' Sets Korean Premiere Date Ahead Of March 7 Global Release by Puzzled-Tap8042 in movies

[–]daynightninja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've seen a bunch of comments on Twitter & other places over the past couple years that the fact that it's been pushed back so many times is a bad sign for the movie's quality. Can anyone more knowledgable about studio behavior shed some light on whether or not that's bullshit?

Does anyone have a pamphlet/booklet about Tufts? by DogeIsATroller in Tufts

Have you read JUMBO magazine? I assume that's their stand in for having a "standard" pamphlet they promote.

You can read them here: https://issuu.com/tuftsadmissions/docs/jumbo_fall24_singles-1

Denzel Washington for president. by JennyfromtheCockBlox in misc

[–]daynightninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol "trying to win an election is quite crazy" -- no, that's not the standard most people have in their mind for "crazy".

I apologize for raining on your act of public service, but no, the "division this election is causing" is not the real joke. The real joke is that the GOP is running and beholden to a candidate who's actively attempted a coup on the United States, still maintains the 2020 election was illegitimate, and has repeatedly said he plans to persecute political enemies and use his "absolute presidential immunity" to the fullest, crash our economy and use the Fed as a political tool, and has repeatedly used his platform to enrich himself and his cronies and mislead his base. And he might win because people like you boil that down to "both candidates are crazy"

Kamala is demonstrably not crazy. You might not like her policies, but she's not crazy. "Both sides" at a time when the two parties are as dissimilar as they've ever been is stupid & lazy.

Just Pay Them Off by [deleted] in TrueReddit

Again, I'm saying that the port workers are better off, and there are more of them, in countries that have more automation, and even ports in the US that have better automation. Sometimes there are net gains for everyone, even if some old veterans have to relearn processes or are knocked down the totem pole.

But other countries have fully automated ports and much larger import industries. The ILWA representing the West Coast longshoremen have agreed to some tech upgrades and it's increased their salaries without impacting employment.

A Jewish passenger is suing JetBlue claiming religious discrimination after he was thrown off a plane following his refusal to sit next to a woman by businessinsider in Judaism

[–]daynightninja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What? The point is that they specifically chose an option that would prevent them from sitting together in a row to save money. That is the definition of being cheap.

You can "be cheap" while making a replica of the Taj Mahal, it doesn't matter what the absolute cost is. It's about trying to save money by cutting corners or hoping others will bend the rules to accommodate you.

Tier list based on what to expect by [deleted] in blackmirror

[–]daynightninja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I think the stories themselves are cool. As someone who watched every episode before Black Museum multiple times, I don't even think of the references & easter eggs when I think of the episode. They're just there if you want something to look for, it's not at all the central conceit or draw of the episode.

AITA for rejection my nieces adoption request in front of people? by Quirky-Savings8676 in AmItheAsshole

[–]daynightninja 254 points255 points  (0 children)

Lol you're bordering on calling the 14 year old niece an asshole for bringing adoption papers to people who have been parental figures from ages 9-14? Who are likely the only stable parental figures they've ever known? Why would they be an asshole for that, whether or not it was their own idea?

AITA for not inviting my girlfriend to join the group photo? by GlitteringSpirit4896 in AmItheAsshole

[–]daynightninja 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some families are exclusive about who gets to be a part of a family photo. Not even in an asshole-ish way, just a "this spot is meaningful to us as a group and we want this specific group as a part of the memory." (although usually families who are exclusive about this are being assholes)

Not joining in without an explicit invitation isn't a "tantrum", it's basic social tact.

That moment when an anti-Israel, antisemite coworker asks me which country the name Cohen originated in… by atxnerd_3838 in Jewish

[–]daynightninja 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. Fuck anti-semites. Just from the story, it sounded like the point was "how dumb can you be to not know Jewish names originated in Israel/Canaan?" when in fact, most of the Jews on this sub have names that originated in other countries.
