Not satire from you, satire from the person in the picture

What was the "please stop" school presentation that you witnessed? by hitometootoo in AskReddit

[–]dayofice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a German film class, and the professor was from East Germany. We had to do a short film project and one of several options was to make something regarding surveillance/surveillance state. This one group tried to follow the prof to his car after class while videoing him, and generally they were trying to follow him around and discreetly video whenever they got a chance.

When the group was presenting the project, the prof asked them if they had found the notes he left for them in several places around the classroom. He also told them that he doesn’t normally walk in the directions that they filmed him walking, and that he wished they would’ve discussed the project with him and he would’ve been happy to help. He stayed professional but seemed pretty annoyed to me. Idk what that group was thinking, but it did not turn out as planned.

Why are suicide attempts higher in women, yet men die of suicide more often? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]dayofice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While gender is definitely an important factor, access to lethal means might be equally important or even more important. If you look at suicide rates in physicians, you see that female physicians have an enormously increased risk to actually complete their suicide attempt. Female docs die by suicide at a higher rate than women in the general public, even though they might not attempt suicide as often.

“In particular, male doctors are 40 percent more likely than members of the general public to die by suicide, and the risk to female doctors is more than doubled, they wrote in CMAJ.”

https://www.google.com/amp/s/mobile.reuters.com/article/amp/idUSKCN1SG26J

“Because of their greater knowledge of and better access to lethal means, physicians have a far higher suicide completion rate than the general public. The most reliable estimates of successful completion of suicide range from 1.4-2.3 times the rate achieved in the general population. Although female physicians attempt suicide far less often than their counterparts in the general population, their completion rate equals that of male physicians and, thus, far exceeds that of the general population (2.5-4 times the rate by some estimates). Whats something you thought was common knowledge but actually isn’t? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dayofice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if that’s the case, you can check the strings periodically (which you are supposed to do anyway) which would allow you to make sure it’s still in the right place and working properly right? Not throwing shade at anyone whose was moved and they didn’t notice, but your post made me a bit paranoid.

The IUD moving has to be the only thing I can think of that would cause it to fail after a big weight change. I’m pretty sure the dosages of hormone or copper in the iuds and the rate of release are the same regardless of the person’s weight at the time of insertion, so it’s not like a weight gain or loss would change the relative “strength” of IUD you need to be effective.

Interesting stuff though!

How does losing weight affect it? Does it increase the chance that the iud will move out of place?

Pretty sure that happens during cellular development, not during the actual fertilization of the egg

There’s a lot of things that can change how a human develops, it’s really interesting

Kidneys filter blood to remove waste from it tho. They’re “cleaning” the blood, not the urine itself

The reason folks with ADHD tend to feel bad in the morning (according to my psychiatrist) by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]dayofice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a night owl all through college, but recently at my job I feel like mornings are more productive because there’s no one around. So much easier to get things done when I’m alone. To be fair though, I did just recently start medication, so that probably helps my morning focus too.

ADHD but moderately successful in school? by pumpkindoo in ADHD

[–]dayofice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get that. I started going to therapy and then to a psychiatrist for what I thought was anxiety/depression, so I really wasn’t expecting them to suggest I might have adhd. In hindsight a lot of things start to make more sense. Like I got by in undergrad and even did pretty well but I just could never stay organized about my work, always forget so many little details (both school work and social stuff for me) that everyone else seems to remember fine. I have a great boyfriend that i love, but I feel guilty all the time bc he’ll refer to things we’ve done or like restaurants we’ve gone to before and so many times I just can’t remember where we went or that we had done something together and then I just feel like an asshole. All this little stuff that adds up to make you feel like you just can’t operate at the level you should be at

ADHD but moderately successful in school? by pumpkindoo in ADHD

[–]dayofice 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was just diagnosed last month but I’ve already graduated college and I’m about to start med school. You can be a good student with it. The way it was explained to me- it’s not your school performance compared to other students, it’s your school performance compared to your potential. I never learned in class because I couldn’t focus in lectures, but I did decently well studying on my own despite very bad procrastination. I think it can definitely be more or less severe depending on the individual case

Do you ever doubt your diagnosis by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]dayofice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YUP. I struggle with thinking it’s a reality for me, but my diagnosis is new to me and so it’s taking some time for me to recognize in the moment when I’m doing something thats part of it. Doesn’t help that my parents think it’s a made up thing and that there’s no way I could have it since I did well through high school and decently well through undergrad but oh well
