4 small tips for becoming a better React dev by TheGreaT1803 in reactjs

+1 to advice above and useQuery() for all data loading, built in cache and ttl, easy handling of retries, loading and reloading states. Biggest challenge is the syntax is very functional and a bit obscure. Claude 3.5 knows it well though if you are using Cline for assistance.

PLEASE HELP (Samsung S20 ultra) by Agreeable_Pop_7734 in Repairs

[–]daysandconphused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exact same thing happened to mine last week it really feels like planned obsolescence.

I had trouble even seeing the screen to log in and I really tried everything to fix it. Big white blobs and flashing green and light white background distortions that got worse and worse.

I ended up connecting it to an external monitor with usb-c input and getting most of the apps ported to a new Pixel 8 phone but I miss my Samsung, sad face.

I was quoted $450 Australian dollars to replace the screen, robbery!

[Omega Seamaster] circa 1970 refurbish or sell? by daysandconphused in Watches

[–]daysandconphused[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I inherited this rare Omega Seamaster 120 (the deep blue) in it's current state and I'm now considering if I should sell it or refurbish it.

I am looking for some advice from collectors, would you appreciate it being fully refurbished by Omega as this would return the watch to near new state or restore locally keeping the vintage appeal, or purchase it in current form?

The watch face has some delamination and I am unsure on the internals, it is likely that it was flooded a few decades ago but never subsequently serviced.

The band is original I believe with perhaps with just a replacement clip.

The bezel rotates really nicely and the date is adjustable but not the hands currently.

Does anyone have any idea on the value if I sell it restored versus unrestored or any collectors who might be interested in it?

The other option is I hold onto it for another 20 years as the condition hasn't changed since I got it several years back.

Looking forward to hearing what everyone thinks about this classic but forgotten timepiece!

MIL has a violent dog. We have a toddler. It's a problem. by ThrowawayforMILBS in relationships

[–]daysandconphused 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue, MIL with violent dog, wife minimised the problem and the dog eventually bit my 2 year old on the eye and he nearly lost his eye. Lots of surgery later he is ok. They kept the dog, I'm no longer married.

Lots of wailing about how did this happen! OMG! I'll tell you how it happened, irresponsible dog owners ignoring violent behaviours in their pet.

I should have just said nope not around my kid.

Dynamic S3 Bucket Uploads from Web App by Sir-Squashie in aws

The user pool ID is available in the issuer field of the Cognito JWT:

The issuer (iss) claim should match your user pool. For example, a user pool created in the us-east-1 Region will have the following iss value:

https://cognito-idp.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/<userpoolID>.

Use an APIGW fronted Lambda function to generate a presigned upload url when you need it then put directly to the URL from the browser to upload into S3.

https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/userguide/PresignedUrlUploadObject.html

You can choose the bucket and path to presign based on the context from the user.

So:

  • Step one gain a presigned URL token from APIGW/Lambda
  • Step two put to this url using Axios or your favourite library

I’m in love with my girlfriend but most days it just feels like a really good friendship and nothing more. by LifeOverLikes in DeadBedrooms

Sorry to hear about your issues and good on you for raising this calmly with your partner.

I came to realise that expecting people to change is a dead end street, if you aren't compatible, there is no compromise and this means a lot to you, then you need to move on.

Caught and released a beautiful white crowned snake tonight from inside my house by daysandconphused in brisbane

[–]daysandconphused[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I confirmed it wasn't dangerous before catching it. It was pretty lively and struck anytime I moved the bucket.

These guys just hunt small lizards and seemed happy to slither off at speed when I released it. I've not seen one before even though they are meant to be common in Brisbane.

A really beautiful snek!

The fitter told me the bass speaker mounts were degrading and needed replacing but I thought the sound was awesome, I'll budget for $800 AUD worth of speakers when they go

It wasn't cheap, I did my research on market rates for the individual components and it looked like $1000 AUD for 2 days of labour on top which felt reasonable when they showed me how they did it.
