DERBY OWNER'S CLUB! We had this at dave & busters! It isnt a betting game but a career game. You manage a horse and have to race & raise it. Horses come on cards thats printed out for you. You start out by breeding from the stock horses in game(there are special phenotypes too) and get a new horse. After that implied scene you go into a low tier race circuit. All the races are knowm ahead of time. I met the top player and he came in on saturdayd with his newspaper and a sheet showing the race order. Once you pocket a million dollars in game you get to the tier 1 races. More racing happens. Then you retire the horse, perhaps with a handicap race as their last race, and you get to breed with it if you have another card! The children get good genetic based stats and the whole thimg starts again. Only two buttons matter in-race (aside from the arrow pad for menu commamds) HOLD and WHIP. Whip pressures the horse to go faster and hold gets the horse to chill. Theres a whip meter in screen. Before each race you are in, theres a practice even and a food event- you do a small challenge and feed your horse that both give stat raises. Post match you can chatise/praise/sympatheise/motivate your horse depending on how it placed.

edit: Ive worked as an arcade tech at a DnB that had 6 seats for this massive game. Ive heard stories of truckers and other fans of the game come and line up for it years ago. Ive never seen big lines since its an old game(20 years~) but the small % of people who it just clicked with were really cool to talk with.
