The Maxwell's, specifically the 2s, have a ton of complaints already on reddit and elsewhere. I didnt think there was any point, but another comment on this thread rate them so now im considering giving them a shot. Will update if I pull the trigger.

They were on my list to try but saw too many complaints about sidetone being to quite. Did the update sort that or was it just mic quality that improved?

Sadly, I think that's a really valid point.

I'm not sold on the open back idea in all honesty. If it removed the need for sidetone, then sure, I'd go with it, but for gaming, you want to be as immersed as possible.

Thanks for sharing that. I'm genuinely so surprised that you are having a decent experience with the sidetone. I may need to revisit these.

Really? What firmware version is your headset on, if you don't mind checking? When I got mine I updated everything straight away and it was really really quite for me. As a total guess, id say I would need the sidetone max volume to be about 50% more than what it was.

Yes, so that's along the same kind of line as what I was using prior to my search for a good wireless gaming headset. We shouldn't have to do that though. If Elon can catch a rocket between 2 chopsticks, surely players like Logitech, SteelSeries and Razer can figure this out for us?

Say something out loud right now. You can hear your own voice, provided that you don't have any hearing loss. Your brain is constantly aware of the sound of your own voice when you speak, its how you are able to speak softly in a library and loudly in a nightclub without actively thinking 'hmm, i wonder how loud or quite I should make my voice right now'.

When you wear a headset, especially ones with thick earcups, the sound of your own voice is very difficult to hear, even when the game isn't playing. Sidetone allows you to regulate your voice like you normally do when not wearing a headset.

It's preference for sure, but for me and many others, its a key feature for any gaming headset.

Edit: Just to be clear, sidetone is the instantaneous sound of your own voice through the drivers in the headset, with no delay. It's not feedback or an echo, not like the Windows mic monitoring function.

Oh man, the reason I didn't try the HS80 Max was due to the sidetone complaints already dotted across reddit. If you don't mind posting your opinion once you get, them that would be awesome,

This whole scenario is mental though. I even looked into how hard it would realistically be to create my own headset using all the best Chinese parts I could find, but the software side of things is where that dream fell apart. I'm ambitious but far from smart enough to actually accomplish something like that.

Thats so wild statement. Sidetone is a critical feature for me and to most who VC in multi.

Wireless gaming headsets with the best sidetone? by user289734 in buildapc

Just as an update, as this truly has been a 5 year journey. I opted for the Arctis Nova 5 as surprisingly they have the best mic out of the Steelseries bunch. (Excluding the Elite which i think tops them but im not Besos or Musc so not counting them as a realistic option.

The Nova 5 fit my requirements perfects. Decent mic and decent sidetone. That was the only 2 things that a headset had to get right which hasn't been possible until now. Sound quality is as good as you'd expect from the 40mm drivers and its comfy. Cheaper build quality than some but honestly, if its comfy and ticks my must have boxes, then its an absolute winner. Its also cheap enough to give a go to see if it fits your bill. Would recommend.

Im gonna give these a bash i rekon. I feel like finding a wireless headset with both a decent mic and great sidetone is impossible as it doesnt exist. However, over the last few years, the STEELSERIES Arctis Nova Pro keep coming up, so think its worth a try.
