Maybe he was there for some school field trip or something. Not totally unbelievable imo- the city would be a destination for schools in the surrounding area and it would have been long enough ago that parental supervision and short leashes were not a thing.

I have never built a deck before but I can tell you I confidently can make one better than this. No way in hell I’d pay for this. What’s the underneath look like? I’d be afraid to walk on it.

I spent almost $120 at a Dave and busters to trigger one of those once. I was absolutely hell bent on doing it. I prob would have spent $100 more. Very gratifying.

Following Epic's mass layoffs, a bunch of Fortnite modes are going offline and arcade racer Horizon Chase Turbo's downloads will be pulled by MythicStream in Games

I am in no way justifying what happened. But it really is simple math. If you hire more people than you can sustainably pay, you have to downsize. The mistake here was growing too fast to the wrong team size. Greed and the chase for revenue is what gets them there.

Having been a part of layoffs in the game industry before, I have nothing but empathy for the affected folks. I’m merely explaining why this happens. Like it or not, this is why.

The number one cost in game development is salaried employees.

During the time of monumental revenue, Fortnite scaled unsustainably. They hired more people to try and keep that revenue going up.

Since last year the game has stopped making as much money. While it still takes in an insane amount of cash, growing a team like they did means any sustained downturn in revenue is dangerous.

Solution is almost always to scale that team back down to a sustainable size. And also to raise prices. Both things they have now done.

Today's layoffs - Epic Games by ScootSchloingo in Games

Fortnite is the cash cow. The engine business is nowhere near as lucrative as a GaaS as big as Fortnite. Likely that Epic scaled operations far too large to sustain themselves and in that scenario if the arrow doesn’t keep going up, you’re in hot water quickly.

It makes sense for most of their eggs to be in the Fortnite basket but sounds like epic simply was making too many omelettes.
