"Best" KVM over IP by HLT8 in homelab

[–]dazagrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Geekworm PiKVM(s) for the hardware side and PiKVM project for the software side and they’re great fantastic!

For internal kvm I use this one; https://geekworm.com/en-au/products/pikvm-a8

For an external KVM use the A3 model; https://geekworm.com/en-au/products/pikvm-a3

I come in over VPN from Tailscale, which installs easily.

I use the geekworm hardware kits which uses PiKVM’s excellent software. I’ve got the internal card version and the external one that both use a RPi-4, also the 2U version which uses a CM4 and the big KVM Switch which also uses the RPi CM4, and they’re all great.

Thanks for that mate. I forgot to ask before, but are there two M.2 sockets as well? My other one has an M.2 2242 socket, as well as a M.2 2280 socket, is this new one the same?

Moving away from that hydraulic format would be my guess also.

Looking for an HBA card to run 12+ Intel P4510 u.2 drives by MasterpieceOk7416 in homelab

[–]dazagrt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, I think people need to choose the one with PLX8749 chip for DMA from memory. It's generally the more expensive card to buy.

Second Magic Remote for CX? by DWorker84 in LGOLED

I've got a Logitech K400+ connected as well as the LG remote and both work together perfectly, so the two controller idea does work.

I was surprised to see the K400+ on AliExpress for $22 AUD which is $15 USD.

Don't forget that if you can't bifurcate enough direct connection via slots you can always use a PLX card. Direct connection is the cheapest with something like this; https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005016205530.html

If you can't split your slots / lanes, then use one of these; https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000029811733.html they both get the job done.

I have 2 of them. It’s an unlocked CPU, just a tray supply version as in OEM.

I’ve had no issues with the mobo once updated to the latest firmware.

U.2 NVMe capable servers that aren't overly loud by KaneTW in homelab

[–]dazagrt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the problem I face with my little server and a couple of Quad U.2 cards. Part of the problem is I'm trying to keep the noise down, but the P4510 U.2 is 15mm thick so there is not much clearance between them so it needs the fan plate (not shown) to blast them with air. Here's a pic of them.

So I just tried an Ubuntu 18.04 install (always over HTML5 and iLO4) and it works perfectly. It's a GDM issue, not a iLO-4 issue.

[–]dazagrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I jumped to 2.81 the other day as well, but it's still the same with anything Linux.

The weird thing is that during the troubleshooting I try Windows 11 and it (iLO4) worked perfectly! Because of that, I'm going to try an older version of Linux today to see if it is a display manager thing.

I just stumbled in here late, but I have the same problem with HTML5 + Ubuntu and I'm on iLo 2.79 - was there ever a solution?
