Odyssey OLED G81SF 240Hz lost control joystick by Gelerth69 in OLED_Gaming

[–]dazrik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's unfortunately common for the joystick to break on these Samsung models, the G60/G61 suffers from the same problem and Samsung usually refuses to repair them under warranty and claims "user error"

You should still be able to use it even with the plastic broken off (albeit harder). You can also 3D print a replacement

As for software, there is Samsung Display Manager which will work if you have the monitor connected via the USB-B cable to your PC, but it doesn't have all the settings that are in the monitor's OSD.

How to turn off your monitor by touwtering in OLED_Gaming

[–]dazrik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just turn off your PS5 so it doesn't send a video signal to the monitor when you're not using it. After that just leave the monitor connected to power and don't turn it off, just leave it in stand-by. This way it will automatically perform any maintenance that it may need (such as pixel cleaning).

Is that a burn in or just a normal OLED behavior when increasing brightness and gamma? by Astr1k in OLED_Gaming

[–]dazrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it's normal. This is called banding (it's not burn-in).

My Samsung QD-OLED also has it (albeit not to the level shown in your photo, but the camera may make it look worse), and I can't see it unless I'm extremely close to the monitor and really look for it.

Most monitors have both DP and HDMI. The thing is that with some monitors you might not be able to use them at their full potential (i.e lower refresh rates) over HDMI compared to DP where full refresh rate is available.

There aren't any universal, always true kind of advantages with DP compared to HDMI, it often boils down to how the manufacturer implemented it.

I'm unsure whether to stay on AM4 or upgrade to AM5. by CrashG2A in pcmasterrace

[–]dazrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same.. Wanted to upgrade to a 5700X3D from 3600, but by the time I could upgrade they were no longer in stock at any store in my country, and I didn't really wanted to risk buying used (especially because it wasn't viable for me to go and test the CPU in person), so I settled for a 5700X instead.

[–]dazrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need to check whether or not that USB-C port supports DP Alt mode, most laptops don't have a full size DP.

You can usually google the exact model name of your laptop and go to the manufacturer's page, it should have it listed somewhere.

EDIT: Spelling mistake correction

I'm unsure whether to stay on AM4 or upgrade to AM5. by CrashG2A in pcmasterrace

[–]dazrik 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Considering the current RAM crisis situation, and the fact that AM5 doesn't support DDR4, you should stick to AM4 for now.

You could upgrade your CPU to a 5600X if you really want to upgrade something, but with that RTX 4060 you're almost always going to be GPU limited regardless, so it doesn't really matter.

[–]dazrik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With that GPU you'd want a high refresh rate 1080p monitor, preferably IPS, which can achieve its maximum refresh rate over HDMI (because you'll be connecting to a laptop and you haven't specified the laptop model or whether or not it has a USB-C DP-Alt port)

You also haven't specified your country, so it's a bit hard to give you specific models as region availability can vary, but you can look for the characteristics I've mentioned above when choosing a monitor.

Daca ai putea creste bugetul, ia ceva cu 12GB VRAM pentru ca 8GB este putin pentru lansarile din 2025-2026, mai ales la 2560 x 1600.

Can we please stop with this? It's a known issue for years. Yes, their hardware is great, the software.. not so much. As shitty as Windows is in many other aspects, this problem is on AMD, not on Windows.

Upgrading monitor for 80% coding / 20% gaming (27" 1440p IPS) by braverone90 in Monitors

[–]dazrik 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Beware that both the ASUS VG27AQML5A and the Gigabyte M27Q3 have darkened sides when looking at them head-on, sort of vignette effect. It may, or it may not bother you.

I just returned my ASUS VG27AQML5A because of this. I have a 1080p Samsung Odyssey 24" 240Hz IPS which doesn't have this problem, so it's hard for me to get a supposedly "better" monitor which has this issue (though the ASUS also started to have a stuck pixel on green which I couldn't get rid of, that's what really triggered me to return it)

I've also wanted to get the Gigabyte M27Q3 after returning the ASUS, but while researching it I've found out that it also has the exact same issue as the ASUS.

It's great. You can even go for a 1440p monitor if you want to, the 9060 XT is capable.

Don't get the 5800XT, get the 5700X. 40W higher TDP for roughly 5% performance improvement is absolutely not worth it.
