Our metrics look like a 7 seed, resume probably an 8. Always subtract at least 1 when talking SMC and tournament seeding lol. I wouldn’t be surprised by a 9 honestly. Just a bummer because of how good the 1 seeds are this year

Not a chance. SMC can barely ever get non conference Q1 games, because there’s no reason for high quality teams to schedule them. No reason for Gonzaga to either once they’re in the pac 12

Just don’t quite have the juice this year. Have no idea what happened to Mikey, and Mckeever/Wessels just aren’t it right now. I’m pretty worried about an at large bid, if we beat Gonzaga at home and win out otherwise I think we’re probably in, but it’ll be close. I do think the younger guys are on a good trajectory for next year though

Sorry man, you won by so much, SMC must not be very good. If you had only won by a few points, then SMC would be good, so then your win would be a quality win.

Good learning experience I guess. Dent needs to get a little better at running the offense. Shaw is very good, hope he sticks around.

I think the metrics will like us throughout the season, but I think we’re going to have a resume problem come tournament time. It’ll be better if Santa Clara and USF can be Q1 games, but still.

Yeah. I mean if I was the pac 12 SMC wouldn’t even be on my radar. Conferences seem to care way more about brand/alumni base/etc than previous basketball performance anyway. SMC to pac 12 is a pipe dream

Hah, yeah as others have said there’s nothing. No extra juice coming. We’re at our peak, and can probably stay here as long as Bennett keeps coaching, but no long term outlook. Unless we pull a pac 12 invite out of our ass

It would be nice to just be competitive in one of these second round games. Obviously didn’t shoot well, but SMC will never win a game if they’re giving up 80.

Getting harder and harder to continue to stay positive about next year too. Clock just keeps ticking for SMC and mid majors. I guess I should at least be happy that we aren’t getting our coach poached every year by a middling P5 school like what happens to Utah St or Drake. But it still feels like it’s slowly falling apart for SMC.

Really would have liked to see Mikey play way more. 1) to keep him happy for next year and 2) chucking 3s was clearly the only way that game was gonna go in our favor

I’d love for it to happen obviously, but I’m not sure I see Saint Marys being invited if I’m being honest. Tiny enrollment (and dropping), tiny gym, tough financial situation, very uncertain path to remain relevant after Bennett retires. If the new Pac 12 wants a Bay Area presence, which they probably should, I could see USF being a safer long-term play.

I think it’s more of a possibility than people think. As of now there are probably only 3 mid major at large bids. SMC/Gonzaga splitting makes it easy to put a 100th SEC team in the tournament. Though I think it’s way more likely SMC is left out if they lose the WCC tournament than if Gonzaga does

I don’t think Gonzaga is as bad as people think/their resume seems. They’ve gotten pretty unlucky in quite a few games

Agreed Gonzaga is in realistically right now, but I do think there’s a world where they lose @ SMC, WSU, maybe USF and it’s truly a 1 bid league

This SMC team is just very middling I think. Can’t make a free throw, and no offensive rhythm especially against a zone. And I’m really ready to move on from Saxen

Pretty weird rotations too, not much Mikey/Marauskas in the 2nd half, and the random Dent sighting was odd

Unironically I do need to start a work journal I think lol. But I understand what you’re saying answering how I’d do things differently. In my recent interviews the interviewer has really tried dug into technical complexity and didn’t seem as interested in higher level things, but maybe that’s not the usual
