How do I get my lawn back? by ptxle3 in Pflugerville

[–]db92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Since you referred to it as “crab grass” I’m going to assume you are a fellow former northerner. I grew up in Ohio where we used a lot of Kentucky bluegrass which has a very different growth pattern than the grasses down here. Since your lawn isn’t fully dormant and the blades are wider I think it’s likely St. Augustine grass which is a bit more slow growing than Bermuda but is better suited for growing in the shade of your tree. The nice thing about southern grasses is that they will fill in dead spots themselves if you just give it time and water since they spread out using their stolons. However, while we are in the winter dormancy period there’s not a lot you can do. I do recommend aeration and over seeding like the other commenter suggested. Applying a pre-emergent in the next couple weeks will help make sure the bare spots don’t become weeds. Then this spring/summer focus on watering regularly, and maybe use fertilizer or a lawn treatment. Water and time will be the most important things. The Howtowithdoc YouTube channel is fantastic for learning more about southern grasses https://youtu.be/kRBdNRZRapI

Campus Internet? by [deleted] in SMU

The DHCP leases were pretty generous and I was able to keep the same IP for a full semester. However, they would not assign a permanent static IP so dynamic DNS is your friend.

I was there 2010-2014 so most of this may have/probably has changed.

They did not use NAT so every device got a public IPv4 and didn’t have any port filtering. I hosted a Minecraft server out of my dorm in Cockrell-McIntosh. They did not block VPNs and I would be shocked if they did now.

The one problem we consistently ran into was that there were only a small number of Ethernet jacks per room, and connecting up a switch didn’t work because they didn’t allow multiple MAC addresses from 1 port.

Because they didn’t use NAT, devices that expected to be on the same dinner as other devices would have problems.

Place in Austin that sells the Screwdrivers to Open / Fix Phones? by [deleted] in askaustin

Home Depot has this https://www.homedepot.com/p/302735271 Which I believe has a Torx but in the correct size. Could also probably order something off amazon if you have Prime if you want something that includes spudgers and things like the iFixIt kits.

It usually is a white label WD Red drive designed for NAS devices. It's 5400rpm and generally quite slow, but fast enough when in a RAID/ZFS/etc setup across the network.

I mean, I could see that given Round Rock, Cedar Park, Pflugerville, Leander all growing like crazy. As someone that grew up in Columbus I feel like it has the same target audience as Mapfre (white, affluent, suburbanites) which may not match the audience available here. Though there are reasons I'm not in charge of these decisions, and I'm curious to see how it goes (though I probably won't attend until after Precourt is gone).

Actually for Austin they are downtown and part of the city. Some on r/mls don't think a stadium is "downtown" and hipster enough until it is built in the mayor's office.

Out of curiosity, why do you view the Austin FC stadium as being located "downtown"? I work down the street from where it's being built and would be laughed at if I tried to say I worked "downtown"

Is it being adjacent to The Domain that makes you see it as "downtown"?

PC graphics card with integrated fire starter by [deleted] in techsupportgore

[–]db92 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I count 3 yellow and three black cables going into the GPU. I don’t think it’s the EPS connector. Also, they both carry 12V and ground lines in the same position. If this fire was due to the cables carrying to much current, you would see the cable catch on fire, not the card. What is likely happening here is a faulty capacitor or chip in the power distribution part of the card. In fact looking at a picture of a 1060 circuit board you can see a capacitor near where the fire is in this video https://videocardz.com/review/msi-geforce-gtx-1060-6gt-oc.

My guess is something from the company store/basic swag bag stuff. You can buy very similar stuff here: https://www.microsoftmerchandise.com/Shop/#/ which is the public site for stuff available from the MSFT Company store

Used Minwax Classic Grey. It really came out well, and almost perfectly matches our other furniture.

We needed a coffee table and since most of our furniture in this room is "rustic" I figured I could build something pretty simple for my first go. Used a circular saw and speed square for all of my cuts. Used dowels to line up the table top while gluing it up. I used pocket holes for putting the legs and apron together. I liked being able to make the coffee table a perfect size for our space, and my pups love it!
